I need some help figuring out why Acid 3.0 is freezing up on me. I have been Acidless for about 2 Months now and I want to get it going again to do some projects. Here are my specs Win 98se, PIII, 512 mb, Gina 24/96 v6.03, Ensoniq PCI card for crappy audio, Steinberg USB2Midi, Diamond stealth III s540 video card (updated) C\drive for programs, D\drive for audio, external Acom firewire drive for audio and backup, Sony CDRW for burning CD's. A few months back I suffered a virus on my c\drive and had to replace the drive. That done I reinstalled all of my programs. Everything else works like it should. Cubase, Wavelab, Vegas Video, Reason....all of my audio programs are working perfectly except for Acid. I've reinstalled and updated the program several times and I still get freezes when I try to save...or load in a loop.....do some kind of envelope....It's very arbitrary and doesn't have a pattern. It just FREEZES!!! No error message or anything like that....just stops and I have to shut down the computer with the reset button. I'm at a loss, I can't figure this one out...Anybody have any suggestions? Anything help would be appreciated. Thanks much everyone dbombay1 |

in more detail 1.) Scandisk (thorough scan!) 2.) Defrag and like he said, if that doesnt work, uninstall, reboot, remove any left overs in your Registry that pertain to Acid Pro and then download the latest file from SoFo and then enter your Reg Code. see what happens -Sin |

I have scanned and defragged the disk and uninstalled and reinstalled several times. What I don't recall doing is removing leftovers in my registry. How would I go about doing that? Thanks for the help guys. dbombay1 |

Can you yank that Ensoniq PCI card out of your system, leaving just your Gina for sound? (Be sure to uninstall the Ensoniq's drivers first.) Sometimes, soundcards don't like to play nice with each other in the same system. Iacobus |

Also, not sure what kind of motherboard or chipset your system has, but it *may* help to update the BIOS. HTH, Joel |

Hmmm Excelent suggestions....I'm going to pull out the ensoniq card and see if that works. As far as updating the bios...I have an asus CUSL2-C with an intel chipset. Intels website is pretty confusing and I'm not sure which download is the right one. But I'll give it a whirl. Thanks for all your help dbombay1 |

I have that very same motherboard! Look here for the latest BIOS. Look under "Socket370 Motherboards". Be sure to follow instructions. I used to have a SB Live! installed alongside an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 and didn't have any problems to speak of. I did eventually take the SB Live! out though. (Why have 16-bit when you can go 24-bit? I also had no use for Soundfonts.) Iacobus |

To clean out the Registry I use Norton Win Doctor which is part of their Norton SystemWorks product. SystemWorks also includes a very good defrag tool Norton Speed Disk and Norton Anti Virus. It's worth the money to get all of the products in the bundle. Win Doctor will examine the Registry and recommend steps to correct any errors it finds. Prior to running the tool I like to empty my trash so that it doesn't try to use something in the trash as a solution to a registry problem. It provides Easy and Advanced views into the solutions. -Matthew |
