Subject:How to multi-process 1 file without Batch Converter

Hello, all. I edit dialogue and voice-overs. When I upload a spoken dialogue DAT recording and save it as a (wav.) file, I'd like to apply a few process to clean it up first(normalize, put usable dialogue into regions, etc.) before I dig into it. I'm using Sound Forge 5.0, and I thought I could use the “Audio Plug-In Chainer" to do my "automatic multi-process clean-up," but “Auto/Trim Crop” doesn't seem to be one of the available selections for a chain. Neither does "Normalize," for that matter. EQ is there, but as for the rest I'm SOL.

I understand I could use the Batch Converter to multi-process 1 single file - but I could have sworn this was all possible in Sound Forge 4.5 at one time. Am I missing something?

Thanks.

Well it's sort of possible in SF 4.5 at least (don't have 5). What you do is you enter the batch converter and set up the things you want to do in "conversion settings" as if you were to process a lot of files, and save it (standard batch converter stuff).

After that you can at any time quickly perform those processes on an open waveform in Sound Forge by choosing "Tools"-->"Run batch script" and then selecting whatever you saved it as.

Exactly! That's what I'm looking for in 5.0, but I can't seem to find it. Ya think it was yanked after the creation of a stand-alone Batch Converter?

Dear lord. If this is missing in SF5 (and most importantly 6) then it is a giant step back. Every other major software has some form of Macro tool for the recording of tedious tasks that can then be performed at the push of a button. Recent years there has been such a huge focus on various real-time sequenced effects (initiated by the Master section in Wavelab long ago), that it would appear that software manufacturers forget that there still is such a thing as non-realtime fx such as pitch bending, fading, normalising etc etc.

What SF needs are MORE tools to do this, not less. I can't believe you can't do fading in the batch converter (then again, I can't believe that the fade functions arn't mapped to a shortcut key either...). I feel like an idiot every time I have to open up Cool Edit to do batch fading.

All you have to do is download the Batch converter. If you bought and registered SF5.0 you can get it free!

SF-5 was more of a downgrade. CDA also won't work with v5.0. I guess they threw in in some plug-ins so we didn't feel too ripped off. Like Beetlefan said, The Batch Converter IS a free download to 5.0(pro)registered owners, but it's not integrated, like in 4.5.
So far SF-6 looks good....I don't know if it will have a integrated BC, and time will tell if they deside to throw in CDA. If they do I'm buying... If not, I'm jumping ship and going to Wavelab or Cooledit or something else. And as I understand, I'm not the only one.
