I'm getting distortion in my speakers when i pan hard left or right.I use Acid 3, run Windows XP, and my sound card is a Hercules Game Theater XP. I've updated all drivers. If anyone has a solution for me, i'd love to hear it. |

at what point do you get distortion? 50? 75? sounds like your sound card to me...you really shouldnt use "gaming" sound cards. get a M-Audio or a Terratec card...killer cards for a small price! -Sin |

It's more noticeable around 75. It's more of the channel getting louder as you pan left or right, instead of staying the same volume and just being in the left or right. It's not the sound card because i've tried acid 2 xpress and the panning works fine. Still searching for an answer, if anyone knows, please let me know how to fix this panning volume problem Also, game sound cards may suck, but this one sounds fantastic. i can even record 24/96 with no problem. |

According to Hercules' Web site, the Game Theater can do 20-bit/48 kHz max. Take a look. ACID XPress does 16-bit/48 kHz max while ACID Pro does up to 24-bit/192 kHz max if your hardware supports it. Could that be your problem? Try lowering the bit rate to 16-bit and sample rate to 48 kHz and see if you get the same problem. Iacobus |

In ACID 3, the pan model is additive, meaning that if you have zero dB in both channels when it's in the center, it'll be +6 and -inf if panned hard to one side. If you have Vegas 3, you'll note that there are options for other panning models, including the additive one, balances with various drop-levels in the middle, and a constant power one, as well. The long and short of it, for ACID 3, is to pull your main track volume down a little if you're worried about clipping, and use your ears on it. Best, Joel |

i agree with the sofo guy. turn down the volume, maybe turn on a compressor. it mayb the bit thingy, personally i dont think u'll loose much between 16 and 20 bit. especially if ur input synths or any other things are 16 bit anyways. i personally use a soundblaster that origally came in my comp now (dont worry i'm gonna upgrade to audiophile) so its probably not thaat gaming card -XDZ |

Here are a few things to clear up, to help you guys help me. I work in 44.1/16bit. I just mentioned that the card can do 24bit. And even if the website says it can't do over 20bit, i've recorded in 24bit, i've have a card that couldn't record in 24bit and the computer lets you know. But anyways. Is there a way to turn off the additive panning thing? I can't believe that i'd have to adjust the volume on a track if i pan, cause the db jumps like 4-6db. Something must be wrong. |

I want to say that it's not true 24-bit though. I'm thinking maybe the file header reports those bits that are actually valid for 20-bit? (If I remember right, 18, 20, and 24-bit files are the same file size.) I'm no total digital audio techie though. Can someone clear this info up? I'm sure Joel would've suggested how to change/turn off the additive pan model if it were possible. Maybe something to wish for in ACID Pro 4? Iacobus |
