I really like the new beta...but...

It still (frustratingly) lacks one feature that I had been hoping for.

It’s mostly frustrating because in a round about way the Sound Forge can do the specific things that I want it to...it just takes a lot of mucking around...

I would kill for a snap to beats option. I want to be able to quickly highlight the rough bounds of a drum loop and leave it to the program to automatically snap to the exact start and end points.

Using ‘Tools/Auto Region/Drum Beats’ the application can precisely identify the correct points.

A function that detected these points but just made them snapping boundaries rather than regions would be perfect.

Something simple like: Holding down the ‘B’ key snaps the cursor to the nearest beat that the mouse is over.

Editing loops is a core, bread and butter task. Am I crazy or wouldn’t pretty much everyone like a function like this?

I know this isn't the same as what you're looking for but have you tried the ACID tools in Forge? You can show selection gridlines which divide up the selections into 4ths. You can then tell forge to select the next 4 beats or half the current selection or go to previous 4 beats, etc.
does this help?

Yep the grid lines are sometimes handy but not really what I’m looking for at all.

An ‘Auto Snap to Beats’ item in the Options menu would be another way to facilitate the function.

...I’ve always found it kinda strange that a product with such a strong focus on loop editing didn’t have a function like this. The application already is capable of detecting the correct snap points; it’s just seems to be a matter of implementing it.

...I would also really like to see a dockable explorer window just like in Vegas and Acid. It would be extremely user friendly if you could select part of a WAV in the data window and simply drag and drop it into the explorer window to save it.

That's a great idea ! It often seems that all sorts of tasks get optimised except the drufgery of selecting, naming & saving.
