Trouble loading Video Factory!!

TGA wrote on 4/3/2002, 9:31 PM
Hi,
When I try to install the 2.0 version of software I keep getting an error that certain .dll files failed to register! I can click the "Ignore" button and finish loading the program, but then I don't have any transitions, FX, Type Backdrops etc.
I made sure that I uninstalled the previous version, and removed left over files, I have also tried loading the update only to get the SAME errors!!! VERY FRUSTRATING!! Does anyone have any clues??? I have a project that I really need to get started on!
Thanks,

See posting 'Can someone PLEASE respond to this!!!' Number 16ish, as this could be similar.

I looked at the posting, although the problem was somewhat different, I did uninstall the program, and deleted the folder that was still left under the "Program" folder - short of that, I don't know anything more to clear out, I did defrag and re-start - but NO LUCK. I emailed Tech support, the only fix they have suggested was to install the latest update - NOTHING seems to correct this problem - I love this program - but now it really is useless to me until I find a solution.
PLEASE HELP!

This sounds like a problem that we've run up against a few times in the past. The reason the video fx and transitions are failing to register during install, is that the system file atl.dll is either missing, too old, or not registered properly. The VideoFactory install should be updating this, but in certain cases it fails to do so. One way to fix this is to search for all occurances of "atl.dll" on your main drive, remove them, then reinstall VideoFactory. The installer should kick in an updated version of atl.dll.

What are your specs? Hd, processor, system etc.

I have a Dell system 750mgz 10gig hard drive, with 5 gig free space - My system isn't crashing - It just will not register these .dll files so that my plug-ins are available -

TGA,

Try going to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and click on "Product Updates". Make sure you have the latest DirectX 8.1 and Windows Media Player 7.1 (and don't forget those critical updates!), then try installing VF again.

I downloaded all the Direct X files last night - no luck either! I will try the critical updates, but if anyone out there can make any more suggestions I'm willing to listen! I'm just about ready to uninstall and go purchase something that I can get up and running!! I hate to do that - but I've got a project waiting that I need to get going on.
Thanks for any and all unput.

The atl.dll file that Sunray mentioned is part of Windows Media Player 7. Do you have any unusual media players installed? If you do, maybe try uninstalling it.
