Vegas 8--Can't modify "Sample Text"

I've done it before--did it last week. I even did Ctrl-Shift to get back to factory default to try and do this.

But suddenly when I Insert "Text" it just sits there on the timeline saying "Sample Text". There is no "box" allowing me to modify the text.

How do I fix this?!!

did you attempt to double-click on the text...?
I usually have to do that... once the text box
is selected... I use CTRL-A to highlight all
text in the box and type in my new text...

Unless V8 was really something strange...
I get the sample text in V9 and V13. . .

You've been a member since 2004 and you haven't filled out your system specs...?

If you want people to help, you'll have to describe your system at some point...
better in the system specs than in every request for help, yes...?

You have yet to come back and let those who helped
know what fixed you problem OR even if it was fixed

Duly chastised and noted. I deserved it. ;-)

I did put my specs (as much as I understood) up.

Turns out the "Text Editor" box was "pinned" toward upper right and I could find it by clicking on the little column of "dots".

I probably need to upgrade one of these days.
