Cannot capture using Firewire

I upgraded to Windows 10 and am running Vegas 11. I want to capture DV from my Sony DV/Cam deck using IEEE 1394. The PC recognizes the firewire connection and the drivers are up to date but when I attempt to capture DV, no capture window appears.
I have another PC running Windows XP and Vegas 10. This captures video with no problem. I copied all the settings from the preferences but no luck.
I would appreciate any help.

You don't want up-to-date drivers. You want to load the Windows Legacy 1394 driver for your OS. Chances are it will work then.

I've hasd the same issue with my Nikon Coolscan 4000 slide scanner which is Firewire. The scanner appears correctly in Device Manager but isn't available in my VueScan software which has driven the scanner successfully in the past, ie Win 7.

How do I load the older drivers please?

I should add that on the same Win 10 computer my Sony DSR 11 Firewire deck IS recognized and works fine.

Curioser and curioser...

If I remember correctly after upgrading from W7 to W10 the legacy firewire driver was carried over and function perfectly.
A clean install of W10 does not include legacy drivers which were dropped in W8 & W8.1.

The legacy driver & install info available here.

If changing driver I suggest you take an image of your system first.

Best of luck G

Here's another useful step by step guide to installing legacy Firewire drivers in Win 7 and Win 8, 8.1 and 10.
