Don't know if this works in Studio, but in the Pro version, you simply open Preferences and then select the Audio tab. In the middle of the window, there is a box for "Preferred audio editor". After you select the editor, you can open an audio from the file from the time line (Ctrl-e) or right-click on the event and select the option to "Open copy in audio editor".

To elaborate, "Open copy in audio editor" creates a new take of the event's audio, whilst "Open in audio editor" opens the entire audio file directly.
Assuming MS is similar to the VP.

In additon, audio editing software must be installed. Sound Forge for instance.

To confirm, this works the same in Movie Studio 13 Platinum, not sure about Movie Studio 13.
