Subject:public domain songs?

been searching the internet for days for a list of public domain songs i could sing with my tracks.
been clicking links in circles.
so far anything with search boxes is searching vocal sheets for sale.
or christmas songs.

could someone recommend a site to browse public domain songs?

The copyright laws are complex but in general... any published work prior to 1923 is in the public domain.

I'm not sure what the top 10 hits of 1922 were or if you would even want to sing them however... lol

(...Paul Whiteman and Al Jolson come to mind) ;-)
