Clips won't play - please help

Catherine111 wrote on 2/21/2016, 6:03 AM
I have a pocket camcorder (Hitachi) which I use to take clips of the kids, along with my iPhone and periodically select / trim and turn them into basic dvds. I have a 4 year backlog (so changing camera won't help!) and as I now have Windows 10 I no longer have Windows DVD maker (which in tandem with WMM was good but had a number of issues).

Bought Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum this week and neither format of clips work, argh, gutted!

Managed to fix iPhone ones with an older version of Quicktime (thanks google and a helpful post) but have no idea what to do about the pocket camcorder clips.

They won't play in the preview and they won't be dragged on to the timeline.

Any ideas?

A codec? (although don't assume because I use that word I have any idea what a codec is except complicated and not for the un-tech savy like me!). Should I try ffdshow? And if so what is that and where do I find it?

Thanks!!

Download the free MediaInfo. Use it to open your video and post the Text View results here to tell us what is inside.
Pls tell us your Movie Studio Platinum version and build # as well (see Help menu > About... > General).

For general guidance you should click e.g. the following links and read them.

Download the x264vfw codec appropriate for your OS from Sourceforge (only) and install.
Reboot, and your files should open in Vegas.

Never install a codec pack. You don't need it and your system codecs that Vegas needs can get replaced by unknown versions.

Hi! I have a similar issue. Running VMS 13. I bought a Brinno TLC 200 Pro time lapse camera. It outputs .avi files that I also can't preview or add to the timeline.

I downloaded the codec you recommended and rebooted and still no good. Any other thoughts?
Thanks!

"Search" Brinno (Words Brinno, All Forums, Any Date) for Brinno discussions.
The Brinno files may not use the same codec.
