Subject:Split File Into MultipleTracks?

Is there a way to take a large file in Soundforge and split it into multiple tracks? I guess what I am trying to do is a task that is similar to what you can do in CD Architect, but creating a file system and not a CD. Example; recording vinyl in a continuous FLAC file and then breaking in up into a digital album with metadata. Would this be accomplished easier in another editing software? I may be missing something, but I have not seen a clear way of doing this in the help file. Any direction is greatly appreciated!

Can you not make regions and then export them?

Or more manually highlight an area, Cut[/I] it, then Paste-To-New[/I] on a vacant piece of SF window. Repeat until all bits you want separated are done.

What file format and playback device?
The amount and type of metadata, playlist (and quality), depend on the file type. i.e., MP3, FLAC, WAVE, BWF, AIFF, ect

Hi Geoff, That is what I have been doing. Just seemed a little cumbersome and I thought that there must be another way. It would be great if SONY decided to add the option of creating a digital album in CD Architect.

Um, tyhat was just the easiest most basic of several ways.

CD Architect ? I do it all the time. Just drop the big file, line up the end of the first track, Split it, twiddle whatever start/end points and fades, then move on to the next section .....

You can add global FX, or add specific FX for each split section.

Or do you mean do all that then save with all the tracks saved separately ? Yeah, that would be handy, and so would a lot of other long-requested tweaks. But they seem to have given up on CDA ;-(

You got me thinking that there must be a way to do this in Sound Forge, AND THERE IS!!!

FYI I have Sound Forge Pro 10.

1) Open the file.
2) Insert markers at the start, each break, and the end of the file. A marker is created by pressing "m" where the cursor/ play head is.
3) Under Tools, Scripting - select "Convert Markers to Regions and Extract"
4) Under Tools, Scripting - select "Save Regions as Files".

For CD or Wave files, I encode them to MP3 and create a playlist in Winamp. SF has a playlist options but(* surprisingly) I've never tried it.
