Anyone editing 360 view videos here?

I'm wondering whether the 360 view meta data (if that's the right terminology) will survive editing/rendering in Vegas?

I'll experiment myself, but am curious what others are doing.

There are a number of ways to do this, but Vegas is not one of them, sorry to say.

Yeah...I edited three 360 view clips together in Vegas and, as I feared, the 360 view meta data didn't survive.

But...a few months ago I found, and loaded, a utility called 360VideoMetadataTool that worked like a charm. Fire up the tool, load the video, save it to a new file and you're done.

I'd forgotten where I found the utility so googled it just now...to my surprise it's available via this Google/YouTube support page:

I'll make a note of it, thanks.

Thank you for the replies, especially the suggestions for videometadatatool 360. I will look into that and let you know my experience. Good work. !!!

i was just about to purchase Action Director when i read your post, hope it works.

Samsung states there is an activation code in the box when you purchase the product. There was no code in the box and since Oct 2016 i have been trying to get Samsung to support their product with an activation code. It's like pulling out your own finger nails. I've never come across so many crude support individuals in my life. After 12 escalations over the past 5 months, I gave up. WORSE SUPPORT EVER !!!

I apologize for my outburst about the Samsung support, However, i will say that after reading the many online comments, it is good to know i'm not alone.

In case i misread your comment. did you mean for the utility to work in conjunction with Vegas or as an independent way to upload videos to YouTube. If only for upload purposes, then i guess i will still have to get Action Director to stitch the two half's then edit in Vegas.

I am stitching my Kodak SP360 4k clips using Kodak's free stitching software. It creates stitched clips that contain the metadata needed to upload to YouTube. My original question was whether this metadata would survive editing in Vegas. I subsequently learned it does not, and started using the metadata tool from YouTube/Google.

I believe Action Director is a Gear-specific tool, and will not likely work with my Kodak SP360 4K clips. Bummer you are having so much trouble getting it activated, ChuckBytes. I don't think the Kodak software will work with Gear video clips, sorry.

AVP and/or Video stitch may work with Gear. You can download full demo copies. I haven't bought either because my underwater 360 video clips don't have enough overlap for a good stitch, so they can't do any better than the Kodak software for me.

I corresponded with a fellow on Facebook who was able to get the Kodak stitch software to work on Gear still images. He opened a couple of Kodak images in photoshop, replaced the original image with images from the Gear and saved them. Apparently the metadata survived and Kodak stitch treated them as Kodak images. I doubt this trick would work with video clips, but maybe something equivalent could be done with a metadata editing tool? FFMPEG, maybe?

I have a Nikon KeyMission camera, which does the stitching.

If I load the video in vegas, add a title, what do I render it as ? Thanks a million other questions but the easy (?) ones first.

Thanks

There may be a better answer but.. for my Kodak SP360 4K videos I've been rendering using MainConcept AVC/AAC Internet 1080P and specifying a custom frame size of 3840 x 1920.

I will give that a try. Perhaps Vegas will add some fancy, no simple, plugins for editing 360 video. Thank you

Meantime, you may want to check out CyberLink PowerDirector 15. It's under $100 and does and excellent job with 360 video.

It would make an excellent complement to Vegas Pro.

Len Kaufman wrote on 4/14/2017, 10:50 PM

I'm using the CyberLink PowerDirector 15 (mentioned above). I then take the file into Vegas 14 pro and tweak it, and then apply 360VideoMetadataTool. That does the job for me. What comes out of PowerDirector is not good enough for me. I feel the need to do some sharpening (Smart Sharpen) and adjusting of highlights and shadows (NewBlue Colorfast2).

What I wish existed was an easy way to apply readable titles into the black circle at the bottom that covers me.This is one that I did that way. Watch in at least 1440, Even though the original is 4K, that 4K is distributed over the entire 360 span. Shot on Samsung Gear360.

Thanks folks. I checked out the Cyberlink site and appears to be multiple versions of the software. Is there a minimal and a rcommended version to purchase ?

FWIW: HITFILM Pro looks like a higher end (pricier) set of 360 view tools & claims to be V14 integrated.
