... absolutely clueless ...

Hello everyone,
I'm back after a bit of break. . . (sigh)
* * *
I'm looking for help to "mastering audio recordings". . .
searches don't provide any leads. . .
I've hunted in the ACID forum and Sound Forge
forum without any success...

Is mastering not a viable technique any longer...?

I'm building some files for submission to audiobook
sellers and need it "mastered" to specific levels...

Any hints, tips, guidance, and recommendations
are welcome. . .

thanks y'all. . .

Until that time. . . Earl J.

i could well be wrong (it has been known) but i understand mastering simply meant meeting the required specs?

what are they asking for?

A simple workflow

1. clean up your audio with noise, click and crackle remover.
2. add compression and use the volume envelope to equalize the volume.
3. use equalizers to remove unwanted frequencies.
3. run the final file through a limiter to limit its volume/loudness/ peaks to the desired limit.

And like ushere states, you need to make it compatible with their specs.
What are their 'specific levels'?

A bit like looking for "how to drive a car" instructions in an automobile hardware website.

Try googling "music mastering techniques" for around 30 million answers ;-)

Izotope has good stuff.

Else for Vegas or SF-specific queries there is the SF, and Vegas Pro - Audio forums here.

cheers

Thanks guys. . .

you always come through. . .

I've discovered that it is as y'all say. . .
looking for instructions on driving a car in
in a museum of automotive manuals. . .

LOL

found exactly ("Ed Zachary") what I needed over on
YouTube. . . it was my last alternative... (sigh)

a complete tutorial on just what I needed for ACX...

moving on from video to stills...
and now on to audio only. . .
great retirement plan for a librarian, I believe...
reading books out loud for money. . .

LOL

Thanks for your input guys...

Until that time. . . Earl J.

You also might want to check out the Sony Vegas Production Workflow course on lynda.com.

It covers video editing, audio editing and cleanup and disc authoring.

Thank you Peter. . .

Just returned from two months on Maui catching up and spending some quality time with my brother and relatives...

I guess I should build a few short video slideshows... (LOL)
