VMS13 new NORMAL & FADE toolbar buttons...toggle?

ohmayamusic wrote on 10/14/2015, 5:46 PM
I just upgraded from VMS12 to VMS13 and I really hate that I now have to take my mouse and click on the new bottom toolbar to switch between the NORMAL mode and FADE mode.

In the old version you had a FADE handle in the upper corners of each clip and you could resize by dragging the sides of the clip and fade by dragging the upper corners of the clip. Now you have to manually switch modes to resize a clip or fade in/out...really annoying. A lot of extra mouse clicks instead of just being able to resize and adjust fades without changing modes.

Is there any way to toggle these modes other than to click on one toolbar button or the other? Is there a keyboard shortcut to toggle the modes back and forth?

Please tell me there is...I am hating this setup so far...really slowing me down.

After a little digging I found the D and SHIFT+D commands. It seems like there is 5 items it toggles through, not 3. Any idea what the other two are?

The other two (between Envelope and Fade) are Select and Zoom. Both provide click-and-drag selection boxes on the timeline.

Why don't you alter your workflow, as I did. Make all your cuts, etc on your timeline with the Normal tool then change to the Fade tool and create all your fades. When you get used to this workflow you'll save a lot of time. It works for me.

I upgraded from Sony Vegas 9 yesterday, (because it wouldn't stop crashing), and now i'm faced with the same problem as you. As much as the suggestion to alter work flow is good, the folks who make this software probably don't actually use it, otherwise they wouldn't remove mission critical features which are seemingly so logical, I don't understand why they'd remove it.

Now i have to press another key to do what normally would have been done effortlessly.

Someone please tell us we're wrong and that there's an option somewhere to revert to that simpler method.

VMS13 is touch screen enabled. That may be the reason they changed how the tools function.
