Updating CD architect

djphilme wrote on 2/8/2002, 10:03 PM
I am trying to update my CD Architect to verion G but the installer always falls over when trying to find version E already installed, it says an existing installation of this software must exist in order to perform an update. I am running CD Architect but it cannot see that for some reason. At the moment I am running XP and using CDP Burn to burn on my Ricoh 16x10 and CD Architect recognises my old 7501 Panasonic (2x only) now under XP when enabling compatability. Can anyone help?

Regards,

Phil.

Make sure that you have at least version 4.0D installed when you try this update. If you do not, you would be able to download the 4.0D release from here - ftp://files3.sonicfoundry.com/updates/oldupdates/. The file name is "cdarchv40dx86.exe". Once you have this, you should be able to update to the 4.0G release.

I'm having the same problem, too. And the version is already 4.0E, so the 4.0D fix is an unlikely solution.

I have CD Architect Plug-In for Sound Forge XP (4.5)
Version 4.0e (build 231)

Which came bundled with my now-dead Smart & Friendly CDR.

Installed in Windows 2000 Professional in C:/Program Files/Sound Forge XP

When I run the 4.0g update, it fails, saying "An existing installation of this software must exist..."

When I run the 4.0d update, it fails, saying "In order to complete this installation, please insert the original CD..."

Well, the original CD is in there. Well, I guess it doesn't recognize the S&F bundle CD, but shouldn't it??

Please advise on how I can get this nice software running again! Current version does not work with my Plextor 12/10/32S

Thanks for replying.

I am currently running 4.0E so 4.0D is going backwards. I have come to the conclusion that the software was written a long time ago and I can't expect too much of it. It's just a shame because it had the potential to be a killer application as the greater computer users out there became educated in the use of serious CD writing programs. Writers are cheaper and faster with may people owning one. CD Architect fell of the map as CD writers started to really sell as standard equipment on most P.C's. I believe Sonic Foundry failed to look forward and project what was going to happen to the industry correctly and as such probably hasn't made decisions that could have had long term benefits. See next post to see what I mean.

I am a full time disk jockey and buy my music on a Friday afternoon. I get home and dump the wav files on my HDD. I then fire up CD Arch and put my tracks in. Extended versions of singles can have very long lead-ins so it is an absolutely marvelous thing that I can find the first beat and put a track point there. Other D.J's see what I have done with my collection and drool at the simplisity of my setup. Although they keep asking, I won't give them copies of my software because I paid good money for it and it's their fault for being slow to accept that CD authoring is the way to go. Now this market is growing quickly and your no longer there and I am sick of waiting 37 mins for a my disc to pop out when my 16x is sitting above it twiddling its thumbs.

Just a shame is all.

I've sort of had similar problems in XP after upgrading to Win 2000. I wound up uninstalling - installing from the CD as a stand alone (made sure to use the default directories - this is important). I followed with the upgrade. What makes this interesting, I did not need to switch into compatibility mode for it to work.
