BorisFX

Got an email offering BorisFX version 9 light flares effects package.. The complete full version at no cost.
Retail value $299.00 U.S.
A wonderful and handy tool to use sparingly if at all.. But this package has a whole lot of firepower and best of all it is integrated into your Sony NLE.. Pro versions 10 thru 13.
I'm grateful for the free gift.

Yes, it is pretty nice package. I really like the light flare but don't overdo it!

nice freebie - but every other video i see now has light flares, etc., some of the 'cheapo' ads on the various networks seem to consist of little else ;-)

FPP wrote on 7/24/2015, 7:07 AM
Yes it does seem to be some kind of trend out there in "VideoLand".
I can see myself using light flares to disguise visual mistakes where a cameraman/woman didn't optimize a focus or maybe a bland background is in the shot. I agree though as I stated in my "op" that using it sparingly is key.

I got the email but when I clicked on the link and proceeded to check-out it said the price was $299 - not free.

shame I have one of their modules and vegas pro and it's the same offer for both, bah :)

Saying that i brought their image restoration module as I got caught out with flickering led back lighting lighting combined with regular spot lighting lighting on a stage performance I was filming and it worked flawlessly and the plugins integrate the best I've seen with vegas compared to others I've tried.

The stage light effect has a nice smoke/vapor effect I've used a few times.

Newbie here. I have had the same email, downloaded the package and installed it.
However when I attempt to use it, the preview screen shows text "This Boris FX product is in trial mode. To purchase a license for this software please call Boris FX Sales at 1-888-77-BORIS or visit borisfx.com"

The instructions at http://www.borisfx.com/support/license-instructions/continuum-complete-licensing/ don't seem relevant as I don't see the screens they are showing. Any one know how to licence the product.?
DGates wrote on 7/24/2015, 1:35 PM
There is a serial number with the email that contained the download. Use that. Worked for me.

DGates wrote on 7/24/2015, 1:38 PM
Thanks for the heads-up, FPP. I use FX sparingly, but just the other day I was wanting a lightning bolt effect, and didn't really have anything. Downloaded the package and it has a nice lightning feature, among plenty of other FX that I may dabble with from time to time.
Always Learning wrote on 7/24/2015, 1:41 PM
I inputted the serial number when I installed the product.
What do I do now, when it is showing a trial version?
Always Learning wrote on 7/24/2015, 1:53 PM
Hmm. Solved the problem. It's me misreading the screen.
When you download BCC Lights you get a whole heap of other effects from Boris, all named BCC xxxxxxx
All of them except the Lights are trial versions, and that's the enticement for you to order more stuff.
When you select from the BCC Lights effects (21 of them) you do not get the text.

"...nice freebie - but every other video i see now has light flares, etc., some of the 'cheapo' ads on the various networks seem to consist of little else..."

Exactly. After looking at all of the effects that come with it, I figured I now have everything I need to produce a local car dealer ad. = P

And now, time to get back to basics - It's all about the Narrative. Oh and that other thing - Content. Kontent is Cing . . . . .

Yes there is a sales strategy, as they hope you are not reading everything while downloading.. A little like Red Giant Universe.
The first thing to realize is all those check marks would represent thousands of dollars of plug ins.
I learned to read as much as possible when software freebies are passed out and it seems too good to be true.
But this freebie really is substantial and generous.
It will be over at the end of the month and something like this that works so well with Sony Pro won't be available too frequently.
I must say though, some of BorisFX plug ins look like they may be worth paying for.
All fx are just a way to "spit shine" your projects. If you edit well enough you shouldn't need so much.. But it's nice to have them at your disposal.

Pretty cool; thanks, Boris and Sony!

A nice way to see how Boris plays with Vegas for those of us who have never tried products from this vendor! Now I just need an appropriate reason to use it.
Falcon1 wrote on 7/30/2015, 1:57 AM
Hope I'm doing this right, newbie here also. I downloaded the free offer too and when it came to the page to check which box you wanted I thought they were all the effects so I checked them all. Opps!!! So, how do I delete the effects I don't want that are in my Fx tab in SVP? I e-mailed BorisFX support when I made the mistake about this a few days ago but no reply yet. I don't want to experiment with the lights until I know it's ok to do so. Any help would be appreciated. Take care....Ed

@Falcon1
I'm not an expert but I would probably uninstall and start over.. Only check mark the lights plug in..
That is the only one they are actually offering at no cost.
You have to open your NLE and then activate it and restart your program.
It is a great offering from BorisFX but they, like other software developers have sales tactics to try and stir up more revenue to continue business as we know it.
This is a very generous gift.
DGates wrote on 7/30/2015, 3:15 PM
Yes, there are some nice FX in the Lights package. But no way are they worth 300 bucks by themselves.

There's something weird with the installation process, where it removes the link to VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1 or Production Assistant 2.0

Yesterday I just installed this plugin, and several hours later I noticed that my VASST Ultimate S Pro was gone. No idea why, then I just reinstalled again, back to normal.

And I noticed other user at other forum had the similar issue with his Production Assistant installation:
(I copy-pasted his post in FB Vegas user group)

Paul Mills post:
The extension for Production Assistant 2.0 has disappeared from the extensions tab where it usually resides. Has anyone had this problem? Can anyone tell me how to re-link it? I can open it up on the desktop.

Paul Mills additional comment:
So how this happened, I installed a couple of Boris Plug-ins, a Light program and an image restoration program. When I opened up Vegas, the Production assistant extention had gone. The othet two VASST programs remained. Eventually I have had to re-install the Production Assistant program. Something in setting up the Boris cancelled the Sony Vegas/Production Assistant link. The program was sitting on the desktop and task bar. So if you instal any third party plug-ins, you may remove the production assistant link.

Thanks FFP. I went into programs and deleted BorisFx then found the installer and did it all over again this time only checking the lights and it worked. Again thank you very much. Take care....Ed

@DGates-
About that (LightningBolt) Fx.. How are you, if you are setting the bolt to strike several times within an event?
Let's say 3 strikes every 15 frames or 6 strikes per second?
DGates wrote on 8/1/2015, 4:54 PM
I haven't really done any type of editing with the lightning bolt. I just thought it was a cool feature when I was trying out the FX.
