On-line Help Broken

On a recently wiped computer, I've installed:
Windows XP Home
Vegas Video 3.0
Batch Converter 5.0 & upgrade
Sound Forge 5.0 & upgrade
Noise Reduction 2.0 & upgrade
(among other non-Sonic Foundry programs)

Now, in Vegas Video (and Batch Converter), when I press F1 or pick Help | Contents and Index from the menus, nothing happens. On-line help in Sound Forge is fine.

Also, much of the "What's This" help is partly broken. It usually tells me that it can't find the help file and asks if I want to find it manually. If I say "yes" and locate it, it works fine. The problem is usually
"C:\Program Files\Sonic Foundry\Help Files" vs.
"C:\Program Files\Sonic Foundry\Shared Plug-Ins\Help Files"
But F1 help is still broken.

Happened to me too. Safest thing is to just reinstall.

Re-install Vegas Video 3.

this is a problem where the various help files for SF products get split into two folders. look in Program Files / Sonic Foundry / Help Files

if you see Vegas help files in there select them and copy them into your REAL Help Files folder, which is probably in Sonic Foundry / Help Files

that fixed it for me. no re-install necessary.

Apologies--this happens as a result of older and newer Sonic apps installing their common help components to different locations.

Please copy the contents of C:\Program Files\Sonic Foundry\Help Files to C:\Program Files\Sonic Foundry\Shared Plug-Ins\Help Files.

That should resolve the issue. If it doesn't, run the Registry patch at http://www.sonicfoundry.com/support/files/HelpUpdate.reg will point all your programs to the correct location.

Thanks, and sorry for the inconvenience.

Kevin
