Kodak SP360 3D edit problem

I shot some video with a pair of Kodak SP360 cameras mounted side-by-side and had some trouble trying to edit them as a 3D pair in Vegas Pro 13.

I loaded each clip, aligned them on separate timelines to get them in sync then tried to pair them as a 3D subclip. At this point the right camera information was lost---only the left camera's video was used in the new subclip!?!?!

When I started the project I specified 1080p, 3D side-by-side full. The clips themselves are 1440 by 1440. When I dragged the first clip to the timeline I let Vegas adjust the project settings to match the clip---could this be the issue?

I tried a couple of permutations in the project settings, but it was late at night & I didn't write anything down....

In the end I punted, started a 1080p non-3D project and used the pan/zoom feature to place the left and right video streams side-by-side. I rendered this as a 1080p MP4, and read it into a new project as a 3D side-by-side full clip and did further editing there.

To pair L and R should work if you have established a 3D project before. It should not matter which type of 3D project you choose - can be side-by-side half or whatever.

As long as you have a 3D project in the project properties, the pairing should be possible. If that does not work for your footage, then the reason for that must be something different - 1440x1440 ? is an interesting size of the footage, quite atypical I think.

That makes me wonder if that is the issue - but what I understand from that page
http://kodakpixpro.com/Americas/cameras/activeCam/sp360.php

is that the camera should be able to deliver 1080p?

Would it be possible that you upload two small samples of that footage to a server, both for L and R? Then we could try to pair that on anther machine.

As shot, the clips are 1440x1440.

Using their software you can process portions of the wide angle clip and export them. The resolution of the exported clips varies depending on what you do to the image (sorry this is hard to describe).

I prefer to use the original clip, if I can, and zoom in Vegas.

As it happens, I did shoot a short clip of myself clapping that I can submit for you to play with. Is it possible to upload them to the forum or should I put them on my google drive?

I experimented a little more...

To shoot the clips I rubber banded the cameras together, rotating the left camera 180 degrees so I'd have access to its shutter button.

When I load the left clip into Vegas I knows this and automatically rotates it 180. Combining the rotated left clip with the right clip fails---the right clip isn't shown in the preview window.

If I select the properties of the left clip and set the rotation to zero, then rotate it 180 (so it matches the right clip) using the pan/zoom I can combine the clips and get the left and right images in the preview---but the left clip rotation is wrong. The left image is upside down & right image normal.

I haven't tried rotating the left clip using the stereoscopic adjustment tool yet.

I can rotate the image in the Kodak software but it export the rotated clip at 1280x960. Running both clips through the Kodak software so they are both right side up allows me to combine them as a 3D subclip in Vegas. But with the loss of resolution I cannot zoom in as much as I'd like to crop out some 3D conflicts in the images.

Ok...I think I've figured it out...

If I disable the auto-rotation of the left clip I can combine then as a 3D pair, but the left image is rotated 180 relative to the right.

To get the correct orientation, in the stereoscopic adjustment filter I apply both a horizontal and vertical flip to the left clip.

As for zooming...the crop slider in the stereoscopic filter seems to work better than the pan/zoom tool.

One final kicker, though, I've lost all these adjustments twice now...once by rendering a couple of times and once by simply saving, exiting, and restarting Vegas.

The raw clips can be found here, if you want to tinker with them:

I will delete them in a few days.

Still tinkering...

Learned today the left clip rotation gets reset to 180 after you render (and presumably when you save the project). Resetting this in the clip properties fixes it, but the other 3D adjustments also have to be re-done.

Using the stereoscopic adjust Crop to zoom doesn't work...when you render the full, uncropped, view is rendered. I'm back to using a combination of pan/zoom zoom and mask settings.
