I use an app on the iPhone called "Image Transfer - photo and video transfer app over wifi". It lets you use a web browser on the PC to transfer images/video between the iPhone and your computer.
The basic version is free; I think I paid $4 or so to upgrade it to unlimited transfers.
No special software needed, you should be able to simply plug a USB cable into your iPhone and PC and the phone will then appear as a storage device on the PC.
Choose 'Open device to view files', then it will appear as a storage device. Go to the DCIM directory and you will find another folder, in my case it says '823WGTMA', look in that folder and you will find the photos and clips.
I use GeeBax method, even though I have iTunes installed.
Peter, do you have, or even want iTunes on your System? If not, then use GeeBax AND get to use the proper cabling. You will get a message for installing the Driver for that device.
musicvid10? Am I missing something, but why offer Handbrake?
Yes, thanks musicvid - alternatives always welcome - I may yet have questions on how to edit, but for now I just want to be able to copy the video files onto my PC.
When I tried the "Geebax method" (see above) the PC made a sound of recognition when I connected the iPhone to USB, but the iPhone did not appear in My Computer,
... so I decided to try installing iTunes - what a palaver - took ages, and I had to keep telling it No I don't want you to do that, or No, I don't want you to be default for anything ......
.... but after I installed iTunes, happily I never had to use it - its installation included something that now allowed the iPhone to appear in My Computer, so I was able to copy the files across using Windows Explorer, and the .mov files opened fine in Vegas.
I immediately uninstalled iTunes and things are back to "normal".
iTunes installs a couple other Apple programs requires for your iJunk to work...
But you can install iTunes w/o Quicktime. I have iTunes installed and QT Alternative. You have to install QT Alternative first, then iTunes, but it works.
"So, one DOES need to install iToons! Who'd have thought!?"
My computer is running W7 Pro and has no Apple software installed other than Quicktime, but when I plug the iPhone in, it recognises it every time, so you should not need to install iTunes.
