I only have Pro 10 on my home machine and the following free set of looks from Vegasaur needs at least Pro 11. One of the looks is a cartoon look. It's free so you have nothing to loose.

Have you got the Vegas Pro 10 ? - it came with a free NewBlue "Cartoonr" which is great - and which also works here with my Vegas Pro 12.

The newer and improved NewBlue Cartoonr effect seems to be part of some bundles - if you have got the NB Paint Effects ? - it is there too - or in the newest Stylizeres 3 package which, however becomes pricey if you do not need the other effects in the bundle.

Weird I've never noticed it in 10!
I have 10 installed on this (internet PC) for quick stuff but on my Audio/Video PC I only have (and want) VP 12 installed.
Would I have to install the whole 10 version on my AV PC to get NewBlue "Cartoonr" or can I just install the FX plug?
Thanks very much guys,
Randy
EDIT: I just looked through V 10 to see how I could have missed this FX but can't find it...was it a separate download or something?

I don't remember the NB cartooner plugin ever being part of VP10, but I do remember that NB had a free download of it in one of the emails that was sent to us. I also remember that it contained ad-ware, which I utterly despise, so removed it. Shortly after that I got Boris Red which has a better version of that filter.

A dedicated cartoon plugin will give you best results and fastest workflow. However, if you only need this occasionally, and want the ultimate in flexibility, you can export your video as a still image sequence (use the script that comes with Vegas). Then, in Photoshop (or image editor of your choice) create the effect you want, using one of the still images. Finally, batch convert all the other images, using your image editor's batch converting capabilities.

Here is the result. I just did this in under one minute:

Cartoon Effect Using PhotoImpact

Thanks guys, it appears cartooner was something offered for free (to anyone) at some point but no longer.
I think I will try Mike's and John's suggestions.
Thanks again for all the help!

There was a free Cartoonr effect on NewBlue's website several years ago. It has not be on the website for a few years now.

The newer Cartoonr Plus is still available in Stylizers Ultimate.

It's not entirely free but Red Giants 'Universe' has Toonit which is very good. I think you get a months free trial and it works with Vegas 12/13. Toonit is part of the premium plugins so it's free for a month and then $10 a month. Yearly/lifetime subscriptions are available. If you just need it for one project then the free trial and a paid month might cover this.

I believe got Cartooner bundled with Movie Studio Platinum 9.0 about 5-6 years ago. It is installed on my current 64-bit laptop and it works with VP13. I don't use it too often, but it's there if I need it.

Yes, some Movie Studio versions did include the free NewBlue Cartoonr.

If you want a decent pencil type line image try this.

Rory - sorry to be so slow in complimenting you on your wonderful grasp of the variables within Vegas. That is an amazingly good tutorial.

I've just watched an episode of Brian Cox's Human Universe, showing the first pictures of Earth, recorded from the Moon, from the Apollo expedition that didn't land, but orbited the Moon and came back.

I cannot understand how a mind such as yours cannot rejoice in the truth of where we are.
