Subject:Creative ASIO drivers & no sound

When I switch Audio Device to "Creative ASIO", it does not then recognize my speakers/soundcard for playback. It just lists a generic "Front L/R" for playback device instead of my Creative X-Fi Sound Blaster Titanium card.

Did you disable the on-board sound chip (Realtec?) in the bios? You should. The Creative driver should have a drop-down menu for choosing playback devices.

Just tried this (disabled in BIOS) and still no luck. I get Creative in the drop-down for the Windows Classic driver, but not Creative Asio.

Any other ideas?

I have an older computer with the same Creative card and I have no problems with input or output. On your tracks, is Creative ASIO showing up as an input device? Did you select Creative ASIO in the Audio Device preference tab?

I can select "Creative Asio" as the Audio device, but then it gives me generic "Front L/R" speakers to choose from, not from my soundcard.

If I choose those (really I have to) and close out, then none of the tracks will play and I get no sound whatsoever.

The only thing left is making sure you have the right drivers. Did you check their site for updates? It's all I can think of.

Yes. I've been working on this for six days now. Tried all kinds of drivers.

May have to break down and buy a new sound card.

The Creative card is great if you're just learning the ropes or just goofing around with music but it's not for serious production. A new decent audio interface is the first step to glory. Just one more thing: Did you go into your computer's Device Manager to see if there's any conflicts in the Sound category? And how about the Control Panel's Sound thingy? Check there?

"I can select "Creative Asio" as the Audio device, but then it gives me generic "Front L/R" speakers to choose from, not from my soundcard."

That is what the Creative ASIO driver calls the main l/r output.

How do you have your Creative card connected to your speakers?

Make sure that the creative card is NOT selected as you default output device for Windows. In some cases, this will prevent the ASIO drivers from working correctly.

What is your ACID Master bus routed to? Make sure it is routed to the outputs that your speakers are connected to.

Hi Peter, on my old machine, the Creative driver software says "MIX FRONT L/ FRONT/ R." If he's not seeing the word "MIX" then the driver is not being called ... maybe.
