After all these years of buying Acid pro,Sound Forge and Vegas and all the loop cd's.IM DONE THIS COMPANY HAS NO VALUE TOWARDS IT'S CUSTOMERS .Im talking about Acid Pro.Now at 65 I have to learn a new program to make music.I was hoping for years that they would continue but it's dead.I lost all respect for your company for keeping us hanging on GOOD BY.Thanks Pete you were the only one who gave us a glimmer of hope

If there were a large enough potential customer base for Acid Pro 8, or a suitable update to 7, it would have happened. Forget that we're talking about Sony for the moment. What if some shoe-string company developed and sold Acid Pro (remember Sonic Foundry?)... would you ask that company to continue to develop a commercial loser to the point of financial ruin? How does THAT help the customer base?

So far as your loops... you're probably luckier than most in a similar situation. They are compatible with many other softwares.

And if you feel abandoned, I've got plenty of stories having been in the film and video industry for many years. A discontinued $150 software?...phhtt! Try hardware systems in excess of $10k left to rot.

It's the free market place, and it's a beautiful thing. Another beautiful thing is breaking outside your comfort zone and taking a new software for a spin. Digital Performer, Reason, Reaper... just to name a few. And the premise of your complaint is only partly legitimate. I still have Acid Pro 7 installed and running. It does some great things, plus, I keep it handy when I want to retain old projects of mine created with it.

I feel your frustration, and have so many times over the years with a list of products and vendors. Change never ends. Don't blame Sony.

Well Sony could have and still can make a definitive statement about the future or demise of Acid. It's the like of respect that is galling.

I am sure that this sort of response is really gonna get you some positive movement.

And - what exactly is wrong with AP7 Pro that you suddenly can't use it? (and need to "learn" another program?)

"what exactly is wrong with AP7 Pro that you suddenly can't use it?"

I've asked that of many similar posters, rarely getting any answer at all other than that it's (4|5|6) years old. About the only coherent answer ever given (and rarely at that) is that ACID 7 doesn't support 64 bit plugins. However, even that doesn't stop ACID 7 from doing what it's always done.

I suspect from the wide open rant that started this thread - that the OP is not talking 64 bit anything. Just ranting for rants sake.

While I (like many others) would love to see some movement of any kind in the ACID camp - the fact that AP8 is a non reality doesn't suddenly make AP7 any less useful. So what if it's old - it's not like it's going to wear out.

FWIW - I am ALL 64 bit for my major stuff but I still fire up AP7 when necessary and it still works just as it always has.

There seems a big enough market for Acidised loops still ....

Oh yeah the loops......
I have a ton myself.
Most DAWs wont read or recognize the embedded KEY info.
For the longest time it was ACID or Adobe Audition for that.

But now we have Tracktion 5 and there is another player that is in beta testing that will read Key as well as Tempo info AND you can drop key & tempo change markers on the time line and ACID loops will follow.

I have been checking in here on & off for the past 18 months hoping, hoping to see a new PRO version announcement. 64 bit, VST2, VST3 , AAX, ARA support.
Yeah maybe the Studio version has some of these features....I know it doesn't do ARA, but I also use a control surface and support for that is important to me.

So I guess I will put my hopes in a closet and move on. Too bad.

Hey Duff... when you mentioned "another player" that could access Acid loop info, did you mean a new version of Tracktion... or some other software?

It's always interesting to follow the looping capabilities of new or updated programs.

Marty,

There is a new version of Tracktion out.
And the new version comes with Melodyne Essential.
Tracktion is cheap....I just really really don't like the GUI.

BUT there is another program currently in beta testing....I happen to be lucky enough to be a tester, that I think for the price will be hard to beat.
Wont be as inexpensive as Tracktion or Reaper but it is gonna do a hole lot of stuff we have been missing in other DAWs that ACID does.

Hey Duff.. thanks for taking the time to reply. That's interesting news, especially coming from one of the Acid camp (I guess that sounds better than "Acid user").

When you are at liberty to share more, I hope you post something here?

I believe I'll be laughed off this forum for pointing this out, but Band in a Box also recognizes Acid loops key and tempo.

I'm sure not laughing... that's good to know.

For those of us that felt compelled to "move on" from Pro 7, here's my disjointed path at the moment.

I recently decided that a move from Pro 7 was inevitable, and that was reinforced by the fact that my newly acquired Focusrite Saffire 6 didn't play well with it. So, decided to plunge into Music Studio 10. After several months of limited busses and inability to completely save routing as part of projects... I've come full circle and decided to grab a legacy Tascam USB unit (from the 144 family), and simply go with Pro 7 (using Digital Performer in some instances).

Yes... my solution is to pretend it's 2010 again.

Now if I could just find a way to cleanly import my Music Studio projects into Pro 7. Pro 7 is billed as an "upgrade" to Music Studio... wouldn't it make sense that there would be a pathway for projects to migrate?

Good move. This baby is solid like a rock and gets things done fast. Amazing program when it comes to recording in the studio or laying out percussion loops. None finer. The guys who bad mouth it are deep into 'sound design' midi stuff whatever that is. Keep on trucking, bro.

It still bugs me that Music Studio's upgrade (Acid Pro 7) has no project migration, either direct import or a utility for conversion.

I understand the upgrade is way older, but it is still offered as exactly that... an upgrade.

Music Studio would be great if it had more than 4 busses (how ridiculous is that?), and be able to save its routing scheme, and not have to constantly rescan for the VST plug-in library.

The last release of Acid Music Studio was this year...2014. Was that the future Peter referred to in his post long ago? One can only speculate what Sony will do. Let's hope 2015 gets another Acid release of some sort?

I still come back here and check for AP8!

I am sure SMS appreciates the traffic - but do know that as of today (10/9/14) we are now just 16 days away from 6 years (10/27/08) since AP7 launched.

If 6 years isn't enough to convince folks that there is nothing happening - I am not sure what would be.

I'm late to this party, but I still use ACID 6 on one system. I assembled a dedicated Windows 2000 Pro system, got it fully updated, and then pulled the network cable. This system has 4GB, a 1.6GHz Celeron, an old M-Audio interface and still runs like a champ.

(I do use Acid 7 on a newer system).

I was introduced to Acid Pro at the Sonic Foundry booth at COMDEX when ACID Pro 1.0 was announced. I went to the Joe Walsh party at "The Beach" (still have the lanyard and pass) and never looked back. I went through the birth and the continuing near-death pangs of AcidPlanet.com and have an almost complete collection of 8 Packs and the loop libraries.

I use Pro Tools for gigs where I must; I also use Logic Pro X, Digital Performer, Live, Audition, and Tracktion. But, ACID Pro is my goto when I really need to get something done in a hurry with the least amount of frustration.

As many of you state - I'd love to see a 64bit build (even if no features changed) with 64bit plugin support, but all of my primary plugins are still available as 32bit versions anyway.

Marty,

I was fortunate enough to be a beta tester for Mixcraft 7 by Acoustica. It is now released.

It will read ACID tempo and key info. I will say the work flow is way different then ACID and will take some time to get used to. As well, the way the library is laid and used is not real friendly when adding your media. AND if you have a control surface such as a MACKIE, it's not full integrated.......yet.

Get Reaper or any of the regularly updated DAWS and forget about AP7. It's not fit for purpose - no native x64 support - terrible VST integration - bugs still waiting to be fixed. Anyone shelling out for this toy now needs their head examined. Sad to see the AP7 police still patrolling these forums ready to jump on any naysayers. Even the dinosaurs realised the moment of extinction had passed.

If you use Acid Pro 7, the best programs to move to, that will take you couple of hours to learn, are: Tracktion, Bitwig, Mixcraft, and Reaper.
They are realy simular to Acid, all the other programs like Cubase, Pro Tools Ableton, Prosonus, FL Studio, Sonar etc. One needs much more time or even lessons to lern how to use them.

That is my opinion after testing every one of them, My personal picks are Tracktion and Bitwig.

Happy Holydays
Cheers

I tested out a few of them and in my opinion Samplitude is the best. It comes with stuff that will cost you extra with other DAWs ( plugins ) and most of the stuff it comes with is actually of good quality.

Don't listen to people who say it's complicated. It can be as easy or as complicated as you want it to be. Loads of stuff in there and most importantly, the base program is great.

Found this today....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devin_Townsend

Around 2005, Townsend began to utilize Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier and Stiletto amp heads, boosted with a Maxon OD808, running into Mesa/Boogie 2x12 cabinets, and Marshall 4x12 cabinets. He would also run a 3rd signal into a 1990's Roland GP-100, which would be amplified by a Mesa/Boogie tube power amp. He would still make use of the Peavey head for some solo recordings, such as Synchestra He switched to a Fractal Audio AxeFx system in 2010, replacing his entire Mesa/Boogie and Marshall rig.

Not really. He still uses Mesa rectifiers. Says so somewhere in the middle of this video.

[link]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MifNT-DiIM&list=PLtbucjspoxGISCMw6ocdeEzSq946oorAU

AxeFX is just a part of his rig, so he says. I suspect he may just be paid to promote them and when it comes down to wanting that real/raw guitar sound he uses exactly what I use. Rectifier + T.C Electronics G-force for effects. I don't blame him, it's an unbeatable combo.

Yeah, just watched the end of that video. D'Addario, Fractal Audio ( AxeFx guys ) and EMG logos pop up. He talked about all of those. The only equipment he talked about that did not sponsor this video was Mesa rectifier amp . That should tell you all you need to know.

Cool this function in Traktion really looks nice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tquKSOzhMB0

That can be quite a time saver. It would be nice to have something like that in Acid P8 if it ever comes out.

I must say that the timeline really looks like Acid.

I am working with Sonar X3 at the moment but I am going to give Traktion a try.

Thanks for the tips.

While not quite the same, using SECTIONS in ACID or ACID Music Studio does help you work much quicker with "blocks" of material.

Check out this article if you aren't familiar with it, it's a great feature!

he said he went back to mesa for the current record. fractal is a continual part of his rig. most of what he's produced and what people have heard is axefx. point is that it's a major tool for many artists...and will continue to be.

Indeed b.complex,

I have used that often with Acid :-) thanks for mentioning it anyway.

Especially with movie scores it is a great feature to synch the score according to the changed edits.
And of course to duplicate sections, verses etc.

Also using the folders one can organize multiple tracks in Acid.
But the ability of merging the sub composition like that (making it editable like a single event) is great!

Yes. The funny thing is that Sony Vegas DOES have a similar feature where you can just drop a VEG project file onto your timeline like a single event - it's a "nesting" type of workflow, but similar in function to what you showed in Tracktion. I really like that feature in Tracktion BTW.
