Playlist plays fine on DVD Player; not BR Player

Maybe my expectations are too high...

My project is simple; a single menu with a five titles to choose from with the end destination for each to return to the menu. There's a 6th menu item to play a playlist containing all 5 of the titles. The project is burned to a 4.7 gb DVD using DVD Architect 5.0 and plays perfectly on a "regular" DVD player. However, both of my Blu-Ray players hang (black screen) at the end if the first title when playing the playlist. The same thing happens if I configure the menu items with an end destination of the next title. Is this a problem with DVD architect or just the nature of the beast dealing with DVDs on a a Blu-Ray player?

Thanks in advance for your help.

It does sound like there is nothing wrong with your authoring setup - BUT YOU MUST test the actions of all menu selections in several DVD set-top players - not just one- Please!

When you have concluded that in three or more selected DVD players get it right - then play in your Blu-ray or any Blu-ray set-top player.

If it hangs in your Blu-ray player (only) then it is slight media incompatibilty.

Thanks, videoITguy.

I failed to note that I did test the DVDs on 3 DVD players and 2 Blu-Ray players. Also with two different brands of DVDs. Plays fine on the DVD players. Each video title plays fine on the Blu-Ray player but it will not go to the next title whether I use a playlist or whether I set the end destination.

On another subject...when it rains, it pours. Tried to update DVD Architect 5.0 from build 128 to 186 and although the installation process appeared to complete successfully, the net result is that it seems to have uninstalled the old build without installing the new. No sign of the application executable.

Time to take a walk and regroup.

I'm having the exact same problem when authoring a DVD with DVD Architect Pro 6.0.

My project works fine in DVDA's preview mode, it plays back just as it should with ALL Windows DVD player software that I tried, but when it comes to standalone DVD/BR-players, a simple "Play All"-type playlist will hang at the end of the first video.

I've been Googling my eyes & mind off to see where's the problem but so far haven't found a solution. I've tried all kinds of gimmicks I could think of (i.e. all kinds of possible playlist redirects etc) but nothing has solved the issue so far. My original post regarding the issue is at:

It may not be practical for you, but I don't use playlists for this type of thing. What I do is to generate a single media file and import it multiple times into DVDA. I then set one instance to play everything and each of the others to start and stop so as to play each section (i.e. the original events) on its own.

So far as I know, these discs play OK on all types of player.

Hi there TOG62,

Yes, I've heard people solving the problem like this (out of all the answers I could find from the Internet regarding this issue) .. However, that'd mean hours of re-rendering, restructuring the whole DVD and so forth. Can I be sure that it'll change layers at the right spot (= so that it won't interrupt the playback)?

I have currently structured the DL-DVD so that there's an intermission video upon "Play All"-selection and the layers changed upon the intermission clip.

Thanks for helping out anyway. BTW: Any ideas if this is a problem with Bluray players or is DVDA Pro actually messing something up during DVD authoring?!?!

PS: "Hours of re-rendering, restructuring the whole DVD and so forth" = if there's no way to "glue together" the existing clips without re-rendering everything. I'd assume that's not an option.

You could probably rapidly 'glue the clips together' using tsMuxeR. This does not involve re-rendering and is, consequently, very rapid.
