this is the same message as topic "sound forge in London" but looks like nobody is having a look.
so sorry about double posting.

i need to know how to convert Acoustic Mirror impulse files (.SFI) into .WAV which is the format in Acoustic Stamp.
i have SF 5.0 demo version, but i don't know how to do it.
i'm pretty sure it can be done.

thanx in advance,

Fab

Yes it can be done.

First you create a single sample impulse. (See below for info on how to do that)

Then you just apply whatever acoustic mirror impulse you want on this file, with no "dry" selected at all on the plug-in. Check the "convert mono to stereo" box as well.

The resulting file (after you remove the silence in the beginning) is a bit to bit perfect copy of the actual impulse in the .sfi file, which can be verified by applying this and the original impulse to the same file with the same settings and then subtract them from each other.

To create a single sample, you create a mono file in 16bit/44.1. You then paste in a little piece of any sound you like. After that you crop out a single sample by muting everything that is before and after the loudest sample (it helps to have "samples" selected as the time format). Normalise the file.

thanx Shepherd,

i'll keep you tip handy.
but it's kind of tedious if i'm going to convert a lot of them.
any other way? (batch processing? or a dedicated program?...)

thanx again,
Fab

I'm sure you could automate the process with the batch converter but doing all the preparation work for such a thing would be almost exactly as time consuming as doing it the "hard" way.

It can't take more than a couple of hours. I don't see how that is too long when you have taken the time to post here repeatedly. :)

No, this is just a pretty tedious solution.
