Subject:Selections, drag and drop. Sudden snafu.

My first problem ever with Sound Forge has happened this weekend. Suddenly selecting an area of one file then dragging and dropping onto the workspace to form a second file will leave a 'ghost' highlighted area on the original file.

This persists after the drag an drop operation. Until another area is highligted that doesn't overlap the 'ghost' area, and that is dragged and dropped the ghost stays in place. The newly selected area creates it's own 'ghost'.

If a newly selected area overlaps the 'ghost' then drag and drop will fail, the selection collapses and dissapears when you click and hold inside it.

Also, if you perform a select+drag and drop and move the cursor over another open wave window as you head for an open area of workspace to drop the selection then it gets a 'ghost' selection of it's own.

These 'ghosts' also persist after window collapsing and resizing or moving.

I haven't changed any settings, I've downloaded the 10.0e build 507 update and reinstalled that over itself with no change in the faulty behavior.

I'm guessing that a total reinstall is needed but would like to check first if this is a known error and if there's an easy fix.

I assume you've tried disabling anti-virus and other app.s that could be running the background.
FWIIW, I have not heard anything about that particular issue.
If uninstalling, most would concur, use a third party uninstaller that also removes old registry entries.

Thanks for the reply.

I have nothing running in the background on the computer I use for music stuff. It's not even connected to my router.

This is such a random thing that I knew from the start it was a reinstall job.

Time to image the drive and uninstall/reinstall.

Thanks.

A follow up for anyone interested. A uninstall - re-install did nothing to fix the problem.

Going through Options/Preferences and 'defaulting all' seems to have done the trick.

Just as mystified as I was before, but now the drag and drop works as it has since I started using way back in SF in version 4.

rraud, What uninstaller do you use or suggest? There are several available. I am always looking for suggestions.

I am using Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit, Service Pack 1.

"What uninstaller do you use or suggest?"
> I use the Revo Uninstaller. There's a freeware and 'pro' version ($20).
Both have worked great for me.
