Track Motion lost after event deleted

OldSmoke wrote on 10/27/2013, 12:19 PM
I am not sure if this is normal VP behavior or a bug; I am on VP12 714.
When I put an event on a track, set some track motion for the same track and then delete the event from the track, the track motion is reset to default.
Can anyone replicate this?
Even after putting another event on the track with the changed track motion and then deleting the initial event, the track motion reset to default.

I have not opened a ticket with SCS as I am not sure if this is normal behavior or an actual bug. To me it certainly is a big concern.

Nope, can't repro. Working here with B726.

Post a ScreenGrab of your timeline.

The track motion keyframes are tied to the event they're "under". So if you moved the keyframes to a different event, then deleting that event deletes the key frames. Never tried the "Lock Envelopes to Events" though. Sounds like something I'd be interested in. :)

I just learned something new about Track Motion.

I had about 15 tracks each with an event and each event having about a zillion track motion keyframes. I wanted to replace the events to eliminate some duplicate media used on more than one track. I was experiencing the same behavior as the OP -- when you delete the event, the keyframes disappears. I'm also on Build 714.

I fiddled around and discovered I could:

1. Drag the new event to the timeline over the old event.
2. Copy any attributes such as cropping from the old event.
3. Adjust the length of the new event to match the old event.
4. Paste attributes from the old event to the new event.
5. Scoot the new event over (with track motion keyframes following it) to expose the old event.
6. Delete the old event (no track motion keyframes associated with it anymore).

Worked great. Maybe the Gurus have known this for years but I wanted to mention it in case it helps someone. I'll also try out the other method mentioned in this thread.

Regards,

Kimberly

Couldn't you have used the "Take" functionality to simply right-click and drag a new piece of media onto your existing event, thereby preserving all the attributes and keyframes?

That's exactly what i was going to suggest too. It accomplishes all the steps Kimberly outlined in a much more streamlined fashion, and it allows you to switch between the different media with a single keystroke.

I was actually trying to "add as take" and then once added, I was going to delete the unwanted take. But I never quite figured out how to do it. Up 'til now I've never needed it.

Use your right-mouse-button to drag the new clip on top of an existing event. A menu will pop up when you let up on the button, and from that menu choose "add as take". From then on you can manage the various "take" media in that event by right-mouse-button clicking and using the Take options on the popup menu.

This is true when either of the following options are active:
1) Auto Ripple
2) Lock envelopes to events
