i'd NEVER upgrade a working (ie. commercial) studio to ANY new software release until the first patch comes out...

of course, if you have hair and an adventurous spirit ;-)

Hi Ushere, Indeed, that went through my mind as well, the usual bugs that come with the first release :-).

On the other hand one week after I orderd my Vegas Pro 8, version 9 came out.
The result was that I felt s.tupid and bought version 9 as well. I never installed my version 8, it's still laying around somewhere. I have been using version 9 since then.

So unless Vegas Pro 13 isn't coming out within the coming 3 months I am going to order the Pro 12 :-). But I see that it's a wild guess for any.

I read someone say that "It's probably gonna come out around the same time vegas pro 12 did, in the fall/autumn time"
when asked the same question (by someone else) here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20130127180808AA3C6H9

If you buy it direct from Sony on this site, they offer a free upgrade from the immediately previous version one month before release.

so if you buy 12 today and 13 comes out tomorrow they'd give you 13 for free. It's always been that way as far as I can remember.
ushere wrote on 9/23/2013, 8:39 PM
your guess is as good as the next mans ;-)

in the scheme of things, with the heavy discount offered to early adopters, i wouldn't worry. i'd simply buy 12 (which, on the whole, is working quite reliably - discounting gpu confusion), and when 13 (doubt it will be '13') turns up, buy at discount. after all, if you're a commercial enterprise then the $250 or whatever isn't really a big deal.

I didn't know that. Thanks for the info.

Ushere
I agree the upgrade options from Sony CS are always great. I am gonna upgrade to 12 Pro :-).

If I was to adopt that approach, I would still be using Vegas 9! Seriously!

@ laurence - if i was to wait for a truly stable, reliable software release i'd still be rock 'n' rolling bvw's ;-)

I'm still using V9 despite having paid for V10, V11 and V12.

If it ain't broken....

There is only one thing of which we can be relatively certain and it was pointed out earlier: it will not be called "Vegas Pro 13."
PeterWright wrote on 9/24/2013, 3:30 AM
You mean it's going to be Sony Movie Pro 13 ?

Seriously, I'd be amazed if anyone concerned with putting out a practical piece of software like Vegas would pander to such superstition!
gpsmikey wrote on 9/24/2013, 4:58 AM
That's what the guys on Apollo 13 said too :-)

How about Sony Vegas Pro 0x0D ???

I just stopped buying when I didn't need new features. :)

Plus I'm still on XP-32, so that kind of sealed the deal. :D

The Office 2007 release of Microsoft Office has an internal version number of 12. The next version Office 2010 has an internal version of 14, due to superstitions surrounding the number 13.

Corel's WordPerfect Office, version 13 is marketed as "X3" (Roman number 10 and "3"). The procedure has continued into the next version, X4. The same has happened with Corel's Graphic Suite (i.e. CorelDRAW, Corel Photo-Paint) as well as its video editing software "Video Studio".

I tend to buy the latest releases shortly after they become available - though I don't necessarily use them straight away for obvious reasons.

My purchase of updates dates were:

10: 11th Oct 2010

11: 18th Oct 2011

12: 28th Sept 2012

Can you spot the pattern :- )

Still on 9 here too. I bought 10, but never could get it to run for more than a few seconds. That made me decide not to get 11. 12 won't run on my desktops as they're still XP 32 bit.

I'd probably buy another license or two for 9 if SONY would be smart enough to keep selling them.

I wonder if they will skip 13 and call it 14 due to all the superstition around the number 13l...
TheHappyFriar wrote on 9/24/2013, 10:06 AM
If a company skips "13" because of an old wives take it doesn't say much for the faith in the release to begin with...

Photoshop CS6 is version 13 of Photoshop and the about box says as much.

Of course CS6, aka 13, is the last Photoshop before the subscription purchase model. The curse of the number 13!

I can't help but ponder over the nature of the Bugs, Bats, Warts, Snakes, Gremlins and the like that could make its way into a Version 13.

Or it could be one of the most stable releases ever :-D one of the two.
Sony just might ignore the superstition thing and go for version 13.

Or they could start a new series system like Corel did. WordPerfect Office, version 13 is marketed as "X3" followed bij X4.

'Sony Vegas Pro X3 Touch' Now available for PC, Mac and tablets. ;-).

AKA Sony Vegas Pro XXX Touch.

You think they're finding a niche to sell to, is that it? ;)

Of course, Sony being a Japanese company, the number four to them is unlucky (shi - same word as death). 13 is meaningless AFAIK.
