"I'm looking for something outside of Vegas."

Many of us use the freebie and very detailed MediaInfo. It's very useful for one can export the info in various formats such as simple text, HTML,XML, etc. and post it at forums such as this one. Give it a try.

The media properties show "[frame width] x [frame height] x [bits per pixel]" as Vegas receives it from the decoder. If you're interested in the actual bit depth of the media file, you can use an external tool such as MediaInfo.

Thanks! Very cool! One problem though: For Cineform it doesn't show Color space, Chroma subsampling, or Bit Depth. Is there a way to get it to do that?

It will only show what's in the file metadata. Has no way of checking these on its own.
Most Cineform is 10 bit 4:2:2 (YUV)

Several things, fwtep,
Quiktime media files can be read diagnostic wise by at least QuicktimePro interface in detail info.

If you are working with Cineform as an intermediate file system in post production and have your files in .mov wrapper - I am not sure what can be read out diagnostic wise for any meaning. Because the file you have while a stated 10bit 4:2:2 YUV container - only holds what was actually given to it. In VegasPro 99.9% of the time that is an 8bit file.
