Vegas 2.0h + Delta 1010 problems! help!

stakeoutstudios wrote on 12/20/2001, 9:01 AM
most of the time when I record through the Delta 1010 inputs, the audio is completely unusable. Full of pops and clicks. I haven't had a response from m-audio yet (two weeks after I let them know - great support that)

I've tried different drivers, removing other soundcards etc... I'm now using the latest .41 drivers for win9x.

I've also tried disabling USB on the board, and tried different VIA 4 in 1 drivers.

playboack through the card works fine, and my Gadget labs Wave 8*24 card records perfectly.

Here's my system config:

Win98 SE installed from OEM disk.
Direct X 8.1
AMD Athlon XP 1700+
512 MB DDR SDRAM
Soltek SL-75DRV 2 (VIA KT 266A based board)
Nvidia Geforce DDR 32MB Graphics
2x IBM 7200RPM 40.1 GB Hard Drives
M-audio Delta 1010
Gadget Labs Wave 8*24

I'm at a loss, feeling like I've wasted my money.

Anyone else got these problems?

Jason

jinkies,

remember the last time we heard that "guy" shout..NEW DELTA DRIVERS...GO GET 'EM!!!

Well don't. Beat that guy with a wooden dough roller immediately! Get vers. 4.1.22.27 (especially if using Vegas 2.0).

Make sure you fully uninstall the crap-laden new batch of hell delta drivers, have the via 4in1 latest, and DX8 latest installed first (and all SF updates and codecs).

then update to delta 4.1.22.27. Go to work.

No other driver sounds cleaner, I promise.

oh and hey Maudio, take a quick look up my ass...may as well check to see if you left something when you were last there.

stay away from those goombas over at the DELTA forums.

enough from my happy ass,
Joed

Chill out Joe,
I'm the guy that recommended the new drivers FOR WINDOWS 2000. I didn't say anything about Win 98...or any other OS for that matter.

Are you running 2K or XP? If you are, and still having problems with the 1010 then look elsewhere. These drivers work for me, and I've tried everything that M-Audio has thrown at me. VIA chipsets are trouble, as is USB. I've had no luck with Athlon CPU's, nor ASUS KT266 MB's.

Bottom line: P3 + Win 2000 + Delta 1010 works.

Your mileage may vary.

Yes!!! I have the same problems and have almost an identical PC setup as yours. After doing some research, I found that VIA chipsets are sometimes a source of a bunch of problems. Intel chipsets don't have those issues. Problem is, we don't have the option of a motherboard with Intel chipsets that uses AMD processors.
So, after discovering that bit of info, I built a different PC using mostly different components all on a MB with Intel 440BX chipset. Still got the exact same problems as with the previous PC!! That made me wonder if it was Vegas or a defective Delta unit that was giving me the problems, so I recorded a short track into Sound Forge 5.0 @ 16/44.1, 24/48, and finally 24/96 all without a glitch. I did about 16 passes at 24/96 and they all came out perfect. Problem is, I can't multitrack with Sound Forge. I'm going to try to borrow a different multitrack program from a friend just to see if it is actually Vegas causing the problems.

Let's keep in touch so we can try to figure this out. I'm also stuck using my old Gadget Labs 8.24 even though I have a nice new Delta 1010 sitting there unused. You can email me at jt13166@yahoo.com

Aha! Thank you so much for that. I thought I was going insane trying all kinds of things thinking that I needed to sink more $$$ into a new processor and MB without VIA chips. I'm going to try some earlier drivers and work my way to the more recent ones until I start getting problems, then I'll know which ones to keep.
THANK YOU!!!

Hmm, I briefly tried Win2K... and the sound just wasn't as 'open' I did a direct comparision palying back win98 and win2k... I was shocked.. evdently the software digital filters they've put in those drivers filter out a lot of good sound...

I've had a few suggestions to try out, so I'll let you know if anything works in '98 SE

besides, who wants to use a P3 when I've already got an AMD Athlon XP 1700+ ? I'm pushing more tracks and plugins off my Gadget Labs Wave 8*24 than I ever imagined... if only I could fix the Delta as well it'd be ideal...

thanks for all your help... sstill haven't had a response from m-audio support, but thanks to you guys, seem to have fixed the problem.

the old .27 driver seems to be working perfectly, but you really have to make sure the other drivers are completely removed from the system... woo hoo!

now I'm gonna try and use all 16 inputs (8in Gadget labs Wave 8*24, 8in M-audio Delta 1010...) hopeful maybe.. but I'll give it a go!

well... now vegas works, but looks like I'll have to set up a dual boot system...

I occasionally do some sequencing using cubase... and Cubase cannot open the ASIO drivers.... great. just great.

I get a message saying ' cubase cannot open the devices specified - another device is already esing them, possibly the wave drivers '

.. and that's when nothing else has been opened.

Vegas is fine
Gigastudio is fine

Cubase refuses to open the driver.

and yet, the .41 drivers that don't work properly with vegas allow me to sequence perfectly!

anyone got any more ideas?

grr
