You're asking if After Effects templates work in Vegas?
videoITguy wrote on 12/8/2012, 12:02 PM
what are you talking about?

xml export of project to After effects?
VegasPro12 export of project to After effects?
Roundtrip collaboration between VegasPro and After effects?
????
Pretty much discussed in many prior threads - use search terms like AE or Premiere or xml

Yes, I'm asking if AE templates will work in VP12...maybe I'm reading it wrong but isn't that what this states in the overview?

Project interchange
Import and export a wide range of project files to and from Vegas Pro 12. The built-in software can convert between the native .veg file and AAF, for Avid® ProTools®, XML for Apple® Final Cut Pro® 7, Final Cut Pro X (export only) and DaVinci Resolve 8, and .prproj for Adobe® Premiere® Pro CS6 and After Effects® CS6.

I'd like to use these- http://www.videoblocks.com/aetemp.php?maincat=ae-templates&audio=0&sort=rating

not templates in the way I would choose to use words - see my post above explains what you are looking for....

The answer is NO you are reading it wrong. Vegas Pro 12.0 does not import After Effects templates.

You have to read the fine print really well. Note what it says:

The built-in software can convert between the native .veg file and ..., and

That means that it can only read Premiere Pro project files (*.prproj) and not After Effects project files (*.aep). So you can export a ,prproj file from After Effects and you can import .prproj files to After Effects but NOT the native After Effects project format (*.aep).

> "I'd like to use these- "

This will not work because you would need After Effects in order to export the templates as .prproj files and if you already have After Effects why bother?

Thanks JR, I don't already have AE ....the wording in the overview seems misleading but maybe it's just me.
Thanks for your replies guys.

Oh it's not you... it's definitely misleading.

I wasted and entire afternoon trying to get After Effects project to open in Vegas Pro 12.0. Vegas would blow up with an XML parser error so then I would try and save them as *.aepx (XML) format. After exhausting all possibilities I finally realized that it's limited to Premiere Projects only. :(

And even that leaves a lot to be desired.

Tried to export from AE 5.5 to a pproj file and import that to Vegas 12/394.

Only things that were visible/useful in Vegas were the stills that were in the original AE project - nothing else. No editable text, nothing.

Pretty useless from my perspective. Don't see the point of it all and consider this a wasted effort by SONY.

I believe it's only intended to work with CS6.0 :(
