HitFilm vs Vegas

As I have seen posts here extolling the virtues of HitFilm and as Sony is including it in the 'bundle', I got a demo of V2 Ultimate.

Ignoring the editing part, which Vegas has, what is the difference / advantage of having HitFilm and Vegas?

OK, I have found the particle and tracking quite interesting. (I got Boris RED V4 because of the particles and stabilization but that didn't work well. And V4 had other problems. V5 has the same with more problems added.) I now have proDAD Mercalli 2 for stabilization.

And, both HitFilm and NewBlue have a titler - I have NewBlue V2.

So, as I have Vegas and NewBlue Titler V2 and Essentials and Mercalli, and ignoring the particles that Vegas doesn't have, what do I gain with HitFilm? Both also have FX. I haven't looked closely to see if there are any differences as I don't use effects much.

Thanks for any comments.

Paul, you have succinctly stated the dilemna of this bundle (NOT a suite) and in which I have been calling this issue out long before the IBC announcement.

There really isn't a compelling reason to have Hitfilm on the table as far as I can tell.

Now if SCS offered a suite of integration like Premiere/After Effects, and kept control of colorspace, codec formats etc between them - that is another story.

The integration between Vegas and Hitfilm works pretty much like the PPro and AE integration. You just put a clip on the timeline in vegas and right click and open it in Hitfilm. Then you can do your compositing work and just save the file and it will show back up in Vegas with the effects in the clip. (no need to render again) This is fairly strong integration IMHO

Boris Red, AE, and Hitfilm are compositors. So they do similar jobs. I have never used Boris Red, but will tell you that Hitfilm Ultimate is rock solid, and has some of the best support out there. It is a fully realized compositor, with exceptional green screen, particle system, 3D model manipulation, and a number of other abilities that programs that cost 2 to 3 times more have. Is it top of the line such as AE...no. Is it easy to pick up, yes. I have used both, and for the money Hitfilm is great.
