Previewing Project Media Files

MikeA wrote on 12/1/2012, 7:03 AM
I'm running Vegas 10 Pro and somewhere along the way I've lost my ability to preview the files that I have in the Project Media bin. It used to be that I could click on a file and it would display in the Video Preview window. Now it doesn't. A video file plays the audio but I don't see any image. This is really slowing down my workflow but I don't know if it is some switch I flipped, button I clicked or if the program just bugged out for this tool. Can somebody direct me to getting my previews back?

Thanks,

Mike Allgeier

Have you inadvertently depressed the Auto Preview Button?

Thanks John,
No, that was not pressed. I did find though (after posting my question) that everything is previewing in the Trimmer window. But I don't use the Trimmer window in my workflow. Is there a way to get the Project Media to preview on the main preview window and not in the trimmer?

If I have to I will rearrange my desktop and use the Trimmer but I'd much rather have it preview in the main Video Preview window if possible. I thought that was the way it always did it. Then on day I came in and it didn't do it and I was under the gun to get something done and I just never pursued it. It's now gotten to be a big enough burr under my skin that I'm trying to fix it.

Thanks!

I tried this in Vegas 9, 10, 11 and 12. If the Trimmer is active, the preview will happen in the Trimmer when the Auto Preview button is pressed.

If the Trimmer Window is not active (visible) the preview is on the Video Preview window.

I was able to reproduce the behaviour that you describe in Vegas Pro 9.0e. In this case, I had to give the Trimmer the X. The Trimmer couldn't even be docked into a window but inactive. Try giving the Trimmer the X and see it the preview moves.
