Generally, I don't use the credit roll in Vegas, just too limiting.

Instead, I create a PNG in Photoshop the width of my frame and as long as it needs to be. I then do all my type layout in Photoshop. This has the added benefit of being able to add images (Dolby, MPAA, etc) to the credit roll. Import the PNG into Vegas, and use the Pan/Crop tools to scroll through it over time using keyframes.

I also use the same technique as Ted, except that I use Adobe Illustrator and export to PNG for Vegas ingest. (I prefer Illustrator for its precision in typography and vector art.). Everything else is the same. This gives you unlimited control and flexibility, unlike the rather hobbling limitations of the Vegas credit roll.

Give it a shot. I bet once you try it, you won't go back (assuming you are comfortable in PS or AI).

johnmeyer posted a detailed procedure for optimizing the appearance of credit rolls. If you search for his name, it should pop up.

Just to add to the comments from Baron Oz & VXRocketeer,(& I agree totally with their POV)

If you do not have any competent graphics program, a much cheaper alternative to Illustrator is Xara (about US$60 from Xara.com). Best vector graphics program I've used, really easy to learn, great support and ideal for creating these types of text & graphics & easy export to any sized bitmap (e.g .png). No, I don't work for them or own shares, just reckon it's the best $60 I've spent.

If you want free, then Inkscape will do everything my old copy of Illustrator would do (my copy of Illustrator will not run on 64bit Win7).
Inkscape takes a bit of learning and it does not seem to me to be as intuitive as Illustrator but then the price is really good :)
