Vegas 12 queries

Hi all

(1) I currently use Vegas Pro 10e and have installed the trial of Vegas Pro 12. I've noticed that rendereing to AVC is much faster in 12. I don't have a really high end set up - intel i5-2500K. 8Gb RAM and ATI 5670 512Mb. I rendered a plain 10min AVCHD clip out to AVC, no effects or anything, and it took about 12 mins in Vegas 12. Exaclty the same clip takes about 25 mins in Vegas 10. I don't think my graphics card is making a difference as it is not supported (needs to be 57xx and above). Allthough strangely when I click "check GPU" in teh AVC settings in Pro 10 is says "no GPU available" but in Pro 12 it says "Open CL is available". Anyway, I get the same (good) result in pro 12 whether I render using GPU on or off. So did AVC rendering just improve massivbely since Vegas 10 or is it smart rendering?

(2) Performance on Vegas Pro 12 is fine and I can preview AVCHD perfeclty well. Yet when I add a preset from the "Text and Titles", it really crawls - virtually to a stand still. Does everyone have that?

(3) I know it's been asked before but is it likley that we can upgrade to Vegas Pro 12 Edit?

(4) Anyone tried NewBlue Titler Pro 2. Can you explain the new features? There doesn't seem to be a demo anywhere and no mention at all on the NewBlue website. Yet I see it is on offer if bought with Pro 12 - any idea on what it might eb to upgrade if not bought with Pro 12?

Thanks all!

Hey Jack

We may have a few things in common. My machine has a 1 GB Radeon video card; recognized as Open CL by Vegas 12, but GPU rendering doesn't help much - it's actually slower. If you have the "right" video card - ie one that makes a difference - rendering is much faster. No good to me - can't change the card in a laptop - but upgrading may be feasible/desirable for you. I usually render with CPU alone. But yes, AVC options and rendering are better in 12.

Previewing - same for me. Fine until I get to an animated title - then it really crawls. The result after rendering is perfect - it DOES take a long time to render that bit..

About Vegas Pro Edit - don't know.

NBTP - never used it. I had version 1 with Vegas 11; any time I clicked on it I got the message that my video card was not adequate and I should upgrade. So forget it! Other considerations: others have reported crashes when trying to use NBTP, and I am a simple home user who finds that there are plenty of titling options available in the standard setup. So NewBlue is not for me - I haven't installed it. It supposedly gives really fancy extra titling options - including 3D - others may like to comment on that.

Thanks Ron

I'm not bothered about upgrading my video card. If I can get that sort of speed rendering AVC in Pro 12 using CPU alone that suits me - it's twice as quick as my Pro 10 and almost 1:1. Is Pro 12 just much quicker at rendering or is it smart rendering, ie not re-rendering where not necessary?

I've tried NBTP trial in both Pro 10 and 12 and have to say I've not had any problems with it all - it si the inbuilt "Titles and Text" that really slows things down - strange. Trouble is there seems to be little info about NBTP 2 and no demo so it's hard to tell if the upgrade to 2 is worth it - or whetehr we coudl get it for the current upgrade price later down the track.
