FasstApps are now available for Vegas Pro 12.0

I know there was some interest in the VASST FasstApps when we released them for Movie Studio Platinum 12 and I hinted that we had something in the works for Vegas Pro editors. I'm happy to announce today that the FasstApps are now available for Vegas Pro 12.0, 11.0, 10.0 & 9.0.

FasstApps are a direct response to customer feedback for a more "consumable" approach to all of the power that is in our larger VASST productivity tools like Ultimate S Pro. We understand that you may only need one or two functions and so we now offer them ala' carte for $9.95 USD each. Just buy the ones you need.

Check them out on the Sony Partner Page.

We're interested in your feedback and especially in what functions you'd like to see next.

Your approach to a new consumable for the NLE is interesting and I am sure you believe it is a pattern for growth.

I note that the promo seems to be totally focused on Movie Studio P12 but is that to say the same app executable file works in Pro12?
Thus one app works both?

I can understand that you may not care to answer this question, but I shall put it straight-out there. Your choice to answer and I won't hold it against you. Are these coded to work the same API as has been done in the comparable preceding versions of like Vasst tools? Or are they working at a different level , OFX, 64-bit - ?? -you understand my quest?

Yes one app works with both. The promos were done when they were only available for Movie Studio 12 but we are working on new training videos with more in-depth walkthroughs.

They are Command Extensions that use the Vegas Script API like previous VASST tools. They are not OFX plug-ins but the reason we chose to only support Vegas Pro 11.0, 12.0 and Movie Studio 12.0 is because they are the only versions that allows us to control OFX plug-ins from the Script API which is a very powerful concept and we are taking advantage of this capability. I hope that answers your question.

Thanks John for your quick response and thoroughness of your reply.

I realize that my question poking under the hood was probably a bit more inquisitive than the ordinary consumer. However, I honestly believe that because developments in the software coding to be an intrinsic part of the "value"of software releases, I felt the question needed an answer.

And you delivered, thanks very much.

You're welcome. I realize now that some of the FasstApps that don't use the Script API to OFX and actually work with Vegas Pro 10.0 & 9.0 as well. I've updated my original post but the new TitleStrip does manipulate OFX plug-ins so it only works with Vegas Pro 12.0, 11.0, and Movie Studio 12.0.

I downloaded the, listed as "Free", CinemaLooks 1.

When I open it in Vegas 12 (Demo), is asks for a license key. I click Unlock and it complains but still loads an empty interface without any presets. Opening About it actually says "LICENSE NOT REQUIRED".

How does one get it to work?

Willem.
JohnnyRoy wrote on 9/27/2012, 5:27 AM
Hi Willem, You should have gotten a license key for CinemaLooks 1 to enter before pressing Unlock. The reason it came up with an empty interface anyway is because there is one interface for all of the CinemaLooks. They all show up in the dropdown list as you add more. So you may have had other ones installed . The reason the About Box says no license required is because the CinemaLooks viewer itself does not require a license. The license is for all of the CinemaLooks themselves that you add to it.

Check your email and see if you were sent a license key. Then use that license key to unlock CinemaLooks 1. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the very prompt reply.

I thought I should have received an email, I also check my junk folder - none. I will try and download it again and see what happens.

Which of them does work for sure in localized Vegas Pro versions?
JohnnyRoy wrote on 9/27/2012, 7:53 AM
> "Which of them does work for sure in localized Vegas Pro versions?"

None of them have been localized. This means that any of them that manipulate FX or render templates will not work because the names of those Vegas Pro components get changed in the localized version. I believe this affects CinemaLooks and maybe TitleStrip. FasstApps like Audit Assistant, EditTool, Marker Maker, Marker Editor, StillMotion, StutterFrame, TimeWarp, Voice Assistant, Property Assistant, MediaTool, Render Assistant, etc. are not affected (except that the GUI is English only) We are looking at ways to make them more language neutral.

Hi - I also can't seem to get a license key for the free version of Cinema Looks 1. It doesn't ask for an email on the link, you just click to download. I've downloaded and installed but no key?

On a different point, will Title Strip not work with Pro 10? Am looking for a lower third assistant - I've tried the old GrafPack but they won't install on 10 either

This is an error with the Sony web site and we have made them aware and they will fix it soon. Somewhere during the update of the web site for the Vegas Pro 12.0 launch someone thought that CinemaLooks 1.0 was a "free download" but as you have seen it is not. It requires a license key and was supposed to be "on sale" for free with a coupon. Give them a few days to sort it out and you'll be able to get a free license key for it.

> "On a different point, will Title Strip not work with Pro 10?"

No, TitleStrip will not work with Vegas Pro 10.0 because it uses the new OFX Titles which were not available in Vegas Pro 10.0. You need Vegas Pro 11.0, 12.0 or Movie Studio 12.0 to use it.

> "Am looking for a lower third assistant - I've tried the old GrafPack but they won't install on 10 either"

I'm not sure what's wrong there. The GrafPak Viewer 1.4.1 works with 11.0, 10.0, 9.0, 8.0, 7.0, 6.0. It does not, however, add text to the lower thirds. Try downloading it again from the Downloads page on the vasst.com web site.

Are there more informative videos or links to these fasstapps? I was on the site reviewing some of the plugins but the videos are very fast and high level they don't go to deep into how and what they do and most of all examples of the output.

I'm particularly interested in the Stutter Frame plugin and want to see more of what it can do..

Thanks!

A couple more questions:
Is there a link where I can get more information on Title Strip packages???

The videos and picture links are all the same and do not show what "themes" each package has. (BTW, the guy w/ the mullet popping in and out of the video is annoying. Not so much the content but the popping in and out is). ((;

http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/titlestrip1

He says to check out more information at www.fasstapps.com but the link goes back to the Sony partner page.... am I missing a link somewhere??

If this is the case Is there a trial period for these Fasst Apps so I can try out the Theme Title Strips? I did not notice anything on the website.

If I like more than one "Theme" is there a package deal where I can purchase multiple or all the packages at a slight discount.

Also, unless I missed something else here, there's nothing on the VASST website about FasstApps.

Thanks in advance, any assistance is appreciated.

Hi Byron, These are great questions. Here are some answers:

> "I'm particularly interested in the Stutter Frame plugin and want to see more of what it can do.. "

StutterFrame is a "lite" version of our Mayhem plug-in. It doesn't have all of the options of Mayhem but it yields similar results of slicing up a video and scrambling it and added FX.

> "Is there a link where I can get more information on Title Strip packages??? The videos and picture links are all the same and do not show what "themes" each package has"

We're working on getting samples of all of the lower thirds onto the web site because we realize that you won't buy them without seeing them. Hopefully they will be up early in the coming week.

> "He says to check out more information at www.fasstapps.com but the link goes back to the Sony partner page.... am I missing a link somewhere??"

Nope. FasstApps.com is just one page right now that points to the Sony partner page. More information is coming.

> "Is there a trial period for these Fasst Apps so I can try out the Theme Title Strips? I did not notice anything on the website."

No, there are no trials. If this is an inhibitor to buying we could consider offering trials. I think if there was more informative content it would be easier to make a purchase decision so we are working on improving the web site content.

> "If I like more than one "Theme" is there a package deal where I can purchase multiple or all the packages at a slight discount."

We have discussed a way to have customers make their own bundles and save money. Look for this in the near future.

> "Also, unless I missed something else here, there's nothing on the VASST website about FasstApps."

You didn't miss anything. We're keeping everything on the Sony site for now to give customers one place to go. We'll see how that works out.

Your feedback is very important to us because this is a new approach to offering software a'la carte for minimal price so I'm sure we'll change things up as we get more feedback from customers like you. We want this to be easy for you to get just the functions you need when you need them so keep the feedback coming.

Thanks John for taking the time for your detailed reply.

The timing of these apps (at least Stutter Frame) is perfect. I was just about to post a question to the forum of a quick and easy way to just split an event into sections to produce a chopped frame sequence of a video event. I know Mayhem could do this but was way overkill and expensive for what I needed.

I decided to take a chance even though the explanation on the video was quite sparse and purchased Stutter Frame. To my surprise it does pretty much what I need and a little more. I like the random order feature which was a nice plus.

The only thing I would like to see is to be able to slice a section of a clip down to single frames vs the lowest setting of randomly slicing 1-2 frames. I've already come across a situation where there's a frame I want to hold that's part of the two frame slice. I have to go back to the old manual way of advancing the marker 1 frame of the two frame sequence, hit "S" and create a sub clip.

I now understand Fasst Apps is still a work in progress and look forward to the additional information to be provided on these plug-ins. I'll likely purchase other Fasst Apps as more information becomes available.

Pls keep us (or at least me) posted on the progress.

Thanks Again!
