Hard to say really. The whole thing is a guessing game anyway. If this, if that...

I think if v12 was imminent, i'd say sure, v11 is now toast. But December is being mentioned for v12 (not sure where that came from), if thats true then we may still see a v11 update before then.

A guy on another forum who was at IBC said that the person at the Sony booth told him sometime next month for the Pro 12 release.
Keep in mind that we have no way of knowing if this person was an SCS employee or someone hired for the show.

Folks in another thread I think were joking about it being released Dec 12 because it is v12. (12-12-12)

On the Sony Vegas page it says:

"Announced on Sept 7, 2012 at IBC, Vegas Pro 12 will be available in fall 2012"
FrigidNDEditing wrote on 9/10/2012, 5:45 AM
The only thing that is listed on the website says FALL, so that's probably within the next month or so ( when does winter officially start? ).

That said, the December thing was from something about HitFilm integration I think???

Regardless, My guess is that V11 is done, however they have released (on occasion) a final patch sometimes just as the development cycle has ended.

It was a joke and it was from me.
Apparently almost no one got the significance of the date; "21st December, 2012". Someone who did get the joke suggested 12-12-12 would be better for the numerologists :)

Or we're getting tired of hearing about it :)

a quick google:
"The astronomical fall (Northern Hemisphere) begins Saturday, 22 September 2012, and ends Thursday, 20 December 2012"

So if its the start of fall (autumn) then it would be this month. I think the guy at show is probably right - next month.
So, are we going to get a v11 update - i doubt it.

[i](when does winter officially start? ).[i/]

Fall doesn't start until Sept. 21st and winter starts on Dec. 21st
Season names adjusted for the northern hemisphere :)

My educated guess is that the next thing out from SCS is VP12 - and not a patch for VP11. I sincerely hope I'm wrong...I am one among those that will not upgrade to a paid V12 version, especially if SCS does not take in consideration us that have been bitten by VP11... and still suffer badly. VP11 was a bad joke, it never did what it promised...

Probably the codebase has diverged a long time ago and SCS has not enough resources to fix same problems in two different versions of the code, that is why all eggs have been in the VP12 basket already for a while. It seems that SCS has aimed all programming resources on producing new products. It's a shame that old bugs and problems persist from version to version. Fixing them would probably not bring any new money to SCS, but selling fancy new versions of a program with lots of new features will. Such a shortsighted attitude. We old loyal customers are those that support SCS even money-wise, in the long run. There is a limit how much we will tolerate. Where is the usual Japanese pride and Sony's devotion to details? OK, SCS is more or less an American company..

December 21st 2012 is when the Mayan calander runs out and the world ends.

That would kinda put the kibash on any further updates, wouldn't it :)

And there's me thinking it meant 2112 . A marvelous RUSH album! But this is proper end of the world stuff - i now know where they got that title from :)

[i]December 21st 2012 is when the Mayan calander runs out and the world ends.[i/]

That would mean that this song was pointless (which it was from a musical standpoint but that's beside the point).

As it turns out the Mayan Calander doesn't end at all, that date simply marks the end of an epoch and the start of a new one.

Back on topic

Lets assume there is no further releases of V11 but what if SCS offered V12 to V11 users for free or at a considerable discount?

Would everyone be happy then?

Bob.
Tim20 wrote on 9/10/2012, 8:06 AM
I can work with free :) Not sure I would jump on a super discount unless it came a few months after release so I can read about all the problems. But who knows it might be the product that revolutionizes editing.

I mean look at that snappy promo video. It only showed seconds of the actual product with great features flying around the screen at the speed of light. Its gotta be good. Hmm I wonder what editor and third party plugins they used to make the video.
paul_w wrote on 9/10/2012, 8:23 AM
mike, theres a line in that song that goes 'maybe we should tear it down and start again'... sounds a bit like a certain software.

Paul, I agree with you, but I am not willing to pay for it. If Sony wants to be classy they'd say "Hey, V11 users... We know that stabilization is broken and all that... So free upgrade for you all." That wont happen.

I am generally a very easy going happy person, but 11 has simply cost me way too much time. I will continue to use 10 for all of my projects
ushere wrote on 9/10/2012, 5:53 PM
sad to say it appears to be still broken....
monoparadox wrote on 9/10/2012, 6:28 PM
It has been safe to assume that for at least a couple of months.

The world, SonyCorporate and Sony Creative are under tremendous financial pressure to perform and turn a profit.

And of course, many of us are too and as the old saying goes: crap flows downhill.

2112 was indeed a great Rush album (big Rush fan here)...

i skipped using v11 since it seemed to have so many problems, i tend to use alternate release versions it seems, since the early days, anyone else?

so I still use 10, though I upgraded and tried 11...

so here's 12, sometime before world's end would be cool lol
Ros wrote on 9/11/2012, 3:11 PM
Upgraded to V11 when it was first released but haven't used it other than testing it for stability and was way to risky to handle paid work.

Have been using V10 for all that time and will be very careful if I "do" upgrade to V12. V11 has been a real nightmare...

Guess Build 700/701 answers this thread!

Nice one SCS.

Who's testing it now?
