VP11+DVDAP5.2 - "24P" DVD template gone? How-to?

Hi,

I'd need to duplicate my latest project on a traditional video-DVD. The output video should be PAL DVD (50/60i), playable on regular standalone DVD players. The source project format is 1920x1080, progressive, 23.976fps IVTC Film. I'm trying to keep the original IVTC/24P film look in the final 25fps PAL DVD result, but it sure has been hard trying to accomplish it properly!

I've read from different forums that both Vegas Pro and DVD Architect used to have a separate specific template for this task. From what I've read & understood, Vegas used to have a template to create a "24P DVD video" (for DVD Architect authoring). Also, DVDA used to have a template for creating a "24P" DVD. The quotation marks meaning that (AFAIK) since a DVD video can't be true 24p, Sony used to have a separate pulldown preset or some other trick for this ..

I can't find the "24p DVD template" from either software anymore -- not from VP11 nor from DVDA Pro 5.2. I'd presume it's because the 24p thing was actually misleading and didn't represent the actual DVD specifications?

My guess is that the "24P output" was achieved with a specific pulldown method and interlacing, but I'd like to know how Sony preferred to do the pulldown trick when they offered those templates in earlier versions of VP and DVDA. This would help me to find my own template for a successful "film-to-DVD" transfer.

If anyone has the Vegas preset for the "24p" DVD render template, I'd like to see the settings (screencaps would be highly appreciated! :)). Also, those with experience on this field, please, share your secrets. It seems that the whole 24P film to 50/60i DVD video transfer subject is an area of endless debate, frustration and especially confusion.

So, I'm desperately looking for a conversion method that would keep the original 24P film look, sound & feel when played back on a traditional DVD player+TV set. I'd also rather not change the pitch nor timestretch/compress the length of the original project audio - a method that I've often seen used or suggested as being the "industry-solution". The reason for this is that the project I'm working on is a music video, so I'm hoping I wouldn't have to toss a coin between compromising the audio for the sake of the video track or vice versa.

The best tutorial and in-depth on the overall telecine conversion subject that I've found so far has been http://www.paradiso-design.net/videostandards_en.html

So: 24P film to 25/50fps interlaced PAL DVD video without making the motion look silly/jerky and preferably without altering the length/tempo of the audio track. But how?

I'd highly appreciate all the help & tips I can get, so thanks a lot in advance!
