NAB 2012 - any news about VP11?

Christian de Godzinsky wrote on 4/18/2012, 12:17 PM
Hi,

NAB 2012 is near its end. Anyone from this forum out there who could report something about the VP11 - like when we get the next bug fix?

Cheers,

Christian

Thanks for the link to the avsforum. I found was just some discussions about the DVDA and 3D features, but nothing about Vegas Pro 11 future... Better than nothing :) Hopefully someone chimes in when there is something to write about VP11. In this case, no news is NOT good news...

Spectral Layers sounds like something akin to iZotope RX 2. Am I correct? Wonder how much it will cost?

Please tell me that the "NewBlue" mentioned in the article as the developer of ThemeBuilder is not the same company that brought us NewBlue TitlerPro, which for me at least will unfailingly crash Vegas 11 Pro?
Christian de Godzinsky wrote on 4/18/2012, 2:23 PM
It seems that Spectral Layers is a separate application (with a separate price tag?) and the ThemeBuilder like a built in feature in a new VP12? Is this correct? Has there been any talk so far about VP11 and its development at NAB?

I got the impression that it is the same NewBlue that behind the ThemeBuilder.. Aargh..

From what I read in today's Creative Cow newsletter, the ThemeBuilder is going to be out this summer. I think it'll be a plugin we'll be able to use in Vegas 11.
ushere wrote on 4/18/2012, 5:41 PM
be nice if we could use 11 in the first place ;-(

Spectral Layers sounds promising but seeing that "ThemeBuilder was developed by NewBlue" just screams, "STAY AWAY!".
- I hate when software manufacturers continue to develop and offer new software before fixing their old/current software.

Wouldn't it be nice to see a press release like this.

"Sony Super Stable" initiative for Vegas Pro Announced at NAB 2012
In a "super" effort to make Sony Vegas Pro the most stable NLE available Sony has taken extreme measures. Through a variation of remote desktop Sony are able to examine exactly what happens during crashes on the computers of hundreds of participating users. A slew of programmers have been tasked with diagnosing and correcting each and every bug. In some cases massive re-coding of Vegas was necessary to "bullet proof" the application. In addition, error reporting has been upgraded to the point where any "not responding" message will also provide a non-cryptic message as to what went wrong and why. Not only helping the user identify potential problems with the host system but also allowing Sony engineers to quickly pinpoint and fix the issue. Finally, Sony has even scheduled local "try and bring down the house" events where Sony Vegas Pro users may bring their systems and/or projects to show Sony their issues in person. This is an important step since users can via portable drives load their projects on Sony certified systems for compatibility testing. Sony has vowed that stability is job #1 and no further features will be added to Vegas Pro until stability is top of the market. Accordingly Sony Vegas Pro users are overjoyed."

@ hulk - if that was true i'd pay for 11 all over again ;-)
Leee wrote on 4/18/2012, 11:20 PM
I guess SCS figures that since only a very small minority of users are having problems with Vegas 11, they really don't need to put much time or effort into fixing it. As long as the vast majority of users are happy and have no problems, that's all that really matters.

I think the vast majority of users of any software barely touch it.

Is that the case though, I certainly don't see any evidence to back that up.
Recently I've noticed a few who've said "No problems here" are only now having problems.

"As long as the vast majority of users are happy and have no problems, that's all that really matters."

Yes indeed, thus the [/sarcasm] tag. There are those who honestly believe that only a very small percentage of users are experiencing problems, and I'm really not sure where they base that assumption from. Just from judging by the sampling of posts alone, I would not be surprised if the "no problem" users are actually in the minority.

It's too bad we can't get an honest poll from about 100 or so users and see what the percentages look like.
ushere wrote on 4/18/2012, 11:59 PM
i'm one of those bob's pointing a finger at.....

my first few forays into 11 we're as i noted at the time, fairly simple edits, none of which (other that nb titler) caused any problems - at least major problems.

my most recent involved 8 hrs of source (most .mod), and titling. i'm not going to bother listing the problems, seems pointless anyway since it appears no-one is listening at scs. (yes, i've put in reports and got standard form answers back).

suffice to say i'm waiting for cs6 and unless scs gets out a point release that clears up the mess 11 has become, it'll be bye-bye vegas....

I guess it's true what they say:
What happens in Vegas (bugs), stays in Vegas!
Leee wrote on 4/19/2012, 12:05 AM
And again, I must say that this whole situation wouldn't be quite so bad if only we received regular updates from SCS, saying they are working hard on the problem and the next patch should be available soon. Even if it was a total lie, it would still be better than hearing only the crickets chirping.
Christian de Godzinsky wrote on 4/19/2012, 2:27 PM
Any updates or news from SCS during NAB about VP11 and possible upcoming fixes?

Anyone? Or was this a dormant subject during the show? This silence is painful... Some of you must have been there!?

On a positive note (and not 100% serious):

- as long as Vegas (or any other software, for that matter) is less error-prone and unstable (in terms of overall work efficiency) than I'm myself, I'm a happy VP 11 user :)

Up until this point, im still on Vegas 10 and still staying away from Vegas 11 and not to mention Newblue Titler Pro (oh my god).
And now to hear that Newblue are the creators of Themebuilder...Doesnt inspire
much confidence in me, im seriously concerned at so many levels.

vegas had a nice run,, loved it here up to around 8, but think about all the formats we throw out there, not that we don't throw them at any other editor we have ... as a dv editor vegas 4 in my opinion beat all... now I just think they don't have the manpower to keep up. Though I still use 10 for quick stuff with ex1 footage , and other than the replace footage bug, which I have to double check, pia , it works
and damn it It is fast whenit works

my 2 cents
