Multicamera editing question

I'm considering moving up to Vegas Pro for the multicamera editing features it has available. Watched some tutorial videos on the subject and it doesn't look too complex. I have a Canon XA10 AVCHD camera and an older Panasonic AG-DVC80 standard definition camera. The Canon shoots at 1920x1080 and the Panasonic at 720x480. The ultimate usage of this video will be as a commercial downloadable video product, so I'm thinking of scaling down to 1280x720 as the final size. How will Vegas handle the SD footage in a multicamera editing mode? I should probably get another HD camcorder is what I'm thinking now......

Hey Mike -

Not sure if this is what you are looking for as I'm somewhat new to Vegas, but I shot some video on HD and SD cameras from my race car and did a multi-camera edit. When ever the SD video is up you get black bars on the sides that frame up the image. I think you can do other things but the easy way is to create a project with the output size you want and then add in the SD video and you will see what it looks like. The multi-cam mode lets you pick which track is the source and switch on the fly other then that it might be the same as a HD project using SD video.

Hope that makes sense.

Hi Sandy, yes that is what I was thinking (black bars) which I don't really want to be appearing on the video as that won't make it look very professional. I think it will make more sense to use two cameras with the same frame size.

Yeah, that's what you get. I have to upgrade the 2 in-car cameras and it will be much better. It's not that bad if you do something other then full frame. I used to use the SD in-car cameras with pip or split screen over the HD video, but when full frame you get bars.

Here is a link to the video that has the SD and HD cameras. Titles are also affected, as I think the project properties may have not be set right but as the video rolls into the car racing you will see what it looks like...

You could also do a nice background or some fancy PIP effects but have not done much with it.
