Subject:Acid Pro 7e Crash

About every 10th time that I right-click in a track header area, Acid Pro 7 crashes with a lengthy dump that mentions access violations. Never had any problems with ACID Pro 6 on the same machine (32 bit VISTA, Quad Core). When I un-install and re-install ACID, it works OK for a while and then crashes again. I sent screen dumps on Dec 8 to Sony Support but still no answer. I've been reinstalling ACID once a week just to keep working. It also crashes if I insert a video sequence. If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.
I also have Vegas and Sound Forge which work with no problems.

Trying to repro but cannot seem to do so. (Using a 64-bit Vista machine.) Try and give exact repro steps.

What video card are you using? Have you updated its drivers at all?

mD,

I pasted my system parameters and ACID error dump at the end of this reply. After the crash, I also get an alert that says:
“.\portable\RewireDLL.cpp(3544): VERIFY failure”
; however, I'm am not using any rewire functions at all.

The problem can arise with something as simple as dragging a stock ACID drum loop onto a track. If I then right click on the track header area (for example to add another track), the crash happens as soon as I click the mouse.

Note that I am using two video displays. The crash happens on either display or if ACID is dragged across both displays.

I have the latest video drivers.

I use a Presonus Firestudio Project for recording. The crash has happened with or without the the Presonus active.
Regards,
John

Could there be anything interfering with ACID somehow? The only time I've seen an error message like this is when a funky plug-in or VSTi makes ACID go kablooey.

The only plugins I have are those that came bundled with ACID. The only thing I haven't tried is to download a fresh copy form Sony and reinstall again.

Try also uninstalling/reinstalling anything related as well, like video card drivers and audio interface drivers.

mD,

I downloaded a fresh ACID installation. So far, I've used it 4 times without crashing. As far as reinstalling other drivers, I have VEGAS, Sound Forge, Photoshop, four 3-D animation programs, two 2-D animation programs, Turbo CAD, software development environments for 3 different languages, motion capture, and a number of other high-end programs. The only program that crashes is ACID Pro 7 so I am reluctant to mess with something as fundamental as video drivers.

I really hate to revert back to ACID 6 or to learn something new like Reaper because I like how the Sony products all work together and they are all relatively easy to use. However, the constant crashes make it impossible to get anything done.

I appreciate your suggestions.

Regards,
John

mD,
After downloading the fresh install from Sony, the previously reported crashes seem to have gone away (no crashes this week). However, I decided to revert back to ACID 6 for now while I look at other options. ACID 7 also bogs down and stops working when scoring video sequences larger than 16Meg!!! The same sequences work OK in ACID 6.

"ACID 7 also bogs down and stops working when scoring video sequences larger than 16Meg!!!"

For the video track? What format is it? I typically use large MP4s (2+ GB) without any problems.

tried to load a 10 gig avi file to acid 7 (first build)... windows xp / 2 gig ram/ no page file...is this why? Presonus Firestudios x's 2 ...
immediately crashes to the desk top...converted to smaller file... ran ok...
do I need the page files for this intensive work?

Could be the case though I thought video tracks playback from the hard drive? (Don't know for sure.)

I wouldn't work with a pristine video file or anything like that since the video track is there for reference purposes anyway.

Just a thought, as I have had a few errors at times as well.

I have a Presonus Firebox.

1.Make sure you have the latest drivers for your Presonus device. Also make sure that you have the right drivers selected in your audio prferences (ASIO is my choice )and that the project audio settings and everything match the audio device settings.

2. Make sure you have plenty of Virtual Memory set aside in your system settings. I find that no matter how much RAM I have, ACID likes large virtual memory paging sizes. This may help your issue with the video problem.
