Vegas/DVDA Pro died after adding SSD - Solved

Sticking just to the facts -- I'm still a bit Irate -- I'm posting a warning to other users who might be upgrading or thinking of upgrading hardware. If you've used Vegas/DVDA for a while you likely know they're keyed to your hardware -- buy a new PC/laptop etc. & you have to re-activate. What's changed is that instead of showing the usual notice that the software has to be registered etc., the Vegas Pro &/or DVDA processes quickly, *Silently* die! I added a SSD, switched the system over to ahci from ide as recommended, & no Vegas or DVDA! It gets worse...

Both Vegas & DVDA use a kernel key in the registry that's specific to your system. With the latest version of Vegas Pro 11 uninstalling the app leaves remnants behind that will cause new installs to fail. To get things working I found I had to delete those kernel keys, which was made more challenging because uninstall deleted the identifying text -- find them before you uninstall. Anything less than 1) uninstalling, 2) deleting those kernel keys, 3) reinstalling, & 4) going through the std. registration process meant either the fresh install would die before it could be activated, or I'd get a Sony EULA popping up every time Vegas started -- there was also a [seemingly permanent] menu item under Help for registering Vegas.

Hopefully this will help someone avoid the BS I went through -- clicking the icon or the .exe file itself I saw no evidence the program ever started, as if I was clicking on a blank area of the desktop.
