Sync Issues with FireWire Output

Hey all. Doing a bit more video work lately (scary), and find that, as I jump around and make edits, the video will often be out of sync when I resume playback. It seems I have to place the cursor after the point I've just edited and play for a bit, then it comes back in sync. As far as I know, the drift is only apparent on my external monitor, which is fed via a Canopus 110 and S-Video connection, and not in the on-screen editing window. My system is a core i7 and is pretty screaming fast. Is this normal, or is there some tweak I've failed to make to keep that FW signal caught up? (using Vegas 10 btw)

I am no expert here but I fixed what appears to be the same problem you are experiencing by going into OPTIONS, PREFERENCES, & PREVIEW DEVICE, and moved the sync offset slider slightly until the sync matched up with the preview device which in my case is a TV. This setting apparenty is for preview only and will not affect the rendered video. Hope this helps. I am using Vegas 8.0c

Thanks, Darrell, but that's not it. That's a latency compensation for any software or hardware that stands between Vegas and the external monitor, and is a consistent, constant amount. This issue is intermittent, and I suspect is based on buffers and caching that take time to catch up after things are moved or altered. Apparently nobody else on this forum has experienced it, so I'll give Creative Cow a try.
