I almost always use 16 MB and only switch to higher values when I need to use the RAM preview.

That totally depends on the amount of RAM installed in your PC, and whether you are using the 32 or 64 bit version of Vegas.

In 64 bit SPV, I have it set to 2048 because all 6 GB of my system RAM is available to it. In the 32 bit version I have it set to 512 MB.

I typically leave my preview RAM at 256Mb.

Much variation from this seems to have a negative impact on render speeds - 256Mb seemed to be the sweet spot for me.

I might up it in specific cases, but this is my default.

Vegas x64, 12 gig ram, 2048 preview.

Seems to work pretty well.

Mine:
50Mb for rendering fastest and general use, 2000 or more for previewing with shift B preview if i need it.
Note, as dissussed in other threads, this value can change wildly depending on your system. Much debate about 'whats best' and there is no definate answer. So you may need to experiment on your system and find your best value/s.
Rendering and previewing are optimised with totally different RAM values. Find yours.
