Multiple Sequences/Timelines

Are there plans to add multiple sequence support in Vegas Movie Studio HD? I recently purchased this product as a replacement for Adobe Premiere CS3 only to find out that it lacks the ability to work on multiple timelines (called sequences in Adobe Premiere). I have to say that I was utterly shocked by the lack of such an essential feature. After doing some research, I saw that even the Pro version doesn't have this. Instead there is something called embedding projects. Again, utter shock. And then I saw people acting casually like this feature is not needed and that embedding projects is equivalent. Shock again.

Did I just waste my investment in this product or is this feature coming soon? There is just no way you can quickly produce an edit for a film or TV show without this feature. Going from having this feature to not having this feature was like losing both my arms. Please add this feature in all versions of your products.

No, that feature is and will likely remain with Vegas Pro (which allows you to embed project files within the timelines of other projects -- essentially the same as embedded timelines in Premiere Pro).

First off, welcome to the forum. Secondly, why did you take a step "backward" and not buy Vegas Pro? Studio is like Premiere Elements, a stripped down version of the full (Pro) version. This Product Comparisons page lists what features are included with each.

If you're truly shocked, then you didn't do your homework before buying.

This is a user forum not frequented too often by SCS employees so we can't tell you if the feature you seek will be added soon.

As for losing your arms, again, you should have done your homework and compare product features before buying.

Why did I take a step backward and not buy Vegas Pro? Too expensive, of course. I looked at the product comparison and, frankly, there isn't much else in Pro that I actually need. I think maybe 2 features in there are actually something I'd care about for future projects.

About not doing my homework. Yeah, I definitely missed the sequence feature being absent, but I guess I just thought is was such a fundamental, obvious feature that I didn't even think to double check that. I only played around with editing a single timeline during testing and all seemed good.

And for your double comment on not doing my homework: Certainly not helpful . I do see a way to lose one of my uses for multiple sequences and so I believe the product may still be useful to me after all. It's just a matter of training myself to use a different method of working.

I use or have used 5 editors and don't believe that any of these have that feature, so I'm not sure why you thought it obvious - except that Premier has it.

I believe unlike other NLE's including Premier you can have multiple copies of Vegas open at the same time, then cut and paste between the open progams.
I have done this on several ocations and it works great. It is easy to work on more than one project at a time and if you have the horsepower you can even render one while working on another.

Hope that helps some, you will find that Vegas is a very fast program and if you take the time to learn what it can do and the speed you get with its tools you will I think like it allot.

You mentioned that you were shocked three times so I guess I wasn't too out of line pointing the homework issue twice.

Be that as it may, once you figure out the work arounds, you'll see that VMS is fairly robust.

I agree with you on the cost issue, one of these days, I'll move up to the Pro version.
