Post your Holiday Videos Here

amendegw wrote on 12/31/2011, 4:44 PM
Several folks have posted nice holiday videos. I thought I'd start a thread to consolidate posts.

I really hadn't planned to share the following video as it's not my best work (it really, really needed a script). However, the background is that my sister visited over Christmas and she prepared a traditional family holiday dish of Swedish potato sausage. At the last minute we thought - maybe a video for posterity? What about a Julia Child parody?

What might interest this group is the wide shots were taken with a Panasonic TM700 at 1080 60p. The close ups were shot with a Canon HG21 at 1080i. Once in Vegas I applied the Yohng yadif deinterlace plugin to the 1080i clips and rendered to MainConcept 720 30p. I used the "Good" method because I really hadn't planned on sharing with anyone other than family (and I did my editing on my laptop - I don't think my hard drive had room for a DNxHD render).

In any case, after all those apologies, here it is:

Edit: I wonder why is my preview image/thumbnail so over saturated? The video itself looks fine. Probably just a YouTube thing?

Loved the Julia Child parody!

You had to know my "hippy tree-hugging liberal screw the banks help the kids corny one-man-band green holiday shopping" video was coming next:

Question -- how are hyperlinks and movies posted here so they work? Mine always look like plain text.

Nice vids, all!

"Question -- how are hyperlinks and movies posted here so they work?"Yeah, the "sticky" is a must read. The short answer to this question is:

OK.

Uploaded for the enthusiam, not the quality. Used a PV-DV203D, "edited" quickly in v10.

Yes, there is plenty of enthusiasm. "That's what I always wanted."

"Yes, there is plenty of enthusiasm. "That's what I always wanted."And... "I've been a really good boy." Keep this video - you can embarass the heck out of him when he's a teenager, but he'll love showing it to his kids when he's older.

No great technical or artistic achievement. Just the young one enjoynig the fireworks. It was significantly before the actual new year because of her age.

I was in an area called Kloof in S.A on holiday, went on a steam train with the family
These guys run the whole thing, upkeep and maintenance all on their own. for the love of it, so I put a clip together for them for the web. hand held, just stuff that looked interesting.

amendegw wrote on 1/4/2012, 9:20 AM
Rory,

That's a great video, but for some reason YouTube only lets me play it in 240p. And it looks like your 16:9 got 4:3ed (to coin a phrase) - at least in some spots. Look at the :44 mark - shouldn't that train have a round boiler?

I'd love to view that in higher def.

I was playing with my new GoPro HD -2, testing out some sunrise time lapse shots. Here is what I uncovered on New Year Eve day in the morning in Central Washington.

Chip,

I didn't realize you were almost a neighbor. If your daughter's ice dance team ever travels to a competition at the University of Delaware, send me an email (I'll buy you a cup of coffee, or maybe man a camera).

btw, I loved the "Hi! Mom" shot in the opening of your video.

Yes, and a few local skaters have commuted to skate on one of the several Delaware teams (8 teams this season). The coaches consult with other competitive synchro teams. Daughter Julia's skate technician had an office at the Delaware rink for a number of years and in retirement still travels around the world supporting ice skaters.

I haven't shot video up there yet. But if I have a trip in the future, I will definitely take you up on the coffee.

@ Jerry & Byron..yep bad habit, a lot of content I create gets streamed through a scaler which maps from 4:3 to 16:9. So work 16.9 rip 4.3 That was a draft for the railway folks so I will make changes ie and ie = it’s not train but railway, kerning etc and then rip it 16:9 final for the web so I will post a higher res image.

Mike the GoPro clip is very cool nice composition and feeling.

I was hoping musicvid would post some more fall images, if you watched his clip there is a shot where the trees are naturally graded yellow green left to right. perfectly natural, very cool.
