Subject:SF 5 can't find CD drive in Win 7

I just got a new computer with Win 7 and probably a SATA DVDR drive. I'm on SF5. When I try to extract audio or burn files there is no drive listed in the Drive drop down box; it is blank.

thanks for any help.

Sound Forge 5 reached its end of life in 2003, that is 2-1/2 years before Vista was released.

It is not officially supported on either Vista or Windows 7. Upgrades are reasonably priced.

Look in your computer's BIOS to see if you can change from SATA to IDE the controller mode of the port to which the CD drive is connected.

This is only worth doing if you can change it for *only* the CD drive port. Don't change it if it means changing *all* drive ports to IDE mode - that could mess up your Windows installation.

Right-click the icon and choose "Run as administrator". Optical drives require administrator access. Can you see it after doing so?

Thanks kryten. That "Run as Administrator" thing worked, but now SF only runs in demo mode and won't let me save anything. I installed SF normally from the original disc and entered the serial #.

Is there a fix for that? thanks.

Windows 7 wasn't officially supported until v.10. Sony won't help you. I installed 4.5 and it is working with very minor problems. It does what I want it to without issues.

Uninstall it. Reinstall using the "Run as administator" option. Then run it with the Administrator option. How does that go?

Right-click on icon/file to select 'run as admin'

He did that, but now it runs in demo mode. Read the above post.
