Vegas Pro 11 x64 Hangs on Startup

steeleimaging wrote on 11/22/2011, 8:37 AM
I recently upgraded to Vegas 11 x64 on my Windows 7 x64 Machine. 24gig of ram.

When I start the program, it hangs. I have to physically kill the process via the task manager and even that is hard to do because the system is so thoroughly locked with the vegas processes.

I have no add-ons installed, nothing complicated or fancy. The program just wont start.

Does anyone have this problem? Is there a solution? I have been a long time Sony Vegas, Soundforge user and this kind of issue seems a little strange for a sony program.

Please advise.

Check the task manager to make sure there isn't a notification window open under the splash screen. I had an expired demo of a plug-in that was trying to tell me to upgrade, but the notification was under the splash screen. It appeared that Vegas was simply not opening. One more clue, the splash screen was saying that it was "Loading Plug-ins" when Vegas stopped its startup.

The recommendation in this thread is to uninstall all of your Sony products and then reinstall. Worked for me.

This is a ridiculous solution.

So basically... it's "Hey, we know you just dropped a load of cash on this program and we are sorry it doesn't work like we advertised because we rushed the debugging phase of product development. So, what we would like you to do is uninstall all of the products you have purchase from us... yes, this includes Acid, Sound Forge, CD Architect and DVD Architect and then, with NO guarantee that this will work, just re install Vegas 11 and hope for the best. Don't worry about all those personalized settings for your clients and special FX chain setting which you have set up to use in order to make a living, they MIGHT be there when you re-install."

Is everyone out of their freakin' mind! What kind of crap is this. It's absurd. How about this... Why doesn't Sony release a product that has been fully tested so that those of us who make a living with it don't have to jump through these crazy suggestions.

It's like... "Sir, we know you purchased this brand new expensive truck to make your deliveries. We don't know why the engine completely failed on you the day you bought it. Let's try this... take out the current engine and look at all of the pretty shiny metal, then, put it back in and see if it works."

Sony. Vegas 11. Fail.

I would LOVE a refund. I have no use for this kind of sophomoric attempt at a product release that is woefully full of issues. When your forum has over 60000 entries and over half are issues.... I'd say there is a problem.

Oh, please! Blame Sony for problems with your system. It works fine on a large number of installations all over the world. Some people had problems which went away when they updated their video drivers to the latest versions. Others realized they had some spurious plug-in that was locking Vegas up. If Vegas hangs up on start-up, there is something wrong with your system.

With all the plug-ins, Vegas is not just a program, it is a system. And any system can be brought to its knees by third party extensions, whether you call them applications or plug-ins.

Now, I know you are frustrated, but blaming Sony for a problem it has not caused is not going to help you. And it is turning people off from helping you.

Mr. Prince,

I have been working with a large number of Sony products for a number of years with NO issues. All of the sudden I upgrade and I get this mess?

And as for people turning away from helping me? Apparently trying to get it done the right way hasn't worked out very well to begin with. Thanks for that input. Brilliant.

Like I always say, turn off the "User Account Control" in Win 7 64 bit when having problems with apllications not opening.

When I install Windows, UAC is the first thing off.
