Vegas 10 AAF issues / ProTools Interchange

cchoy wrote on 11/18/2011, 9:12 PM
So I make an AAF in Vegas.
And I try to open it in ProTools.
And the session doesn't open.

So then I try to open the AAF I made in Vegas in Vegas.
And everything is all wrong.
My session had 7 tracks.
When I open the embedded AAF in Vegas there are only 2.

What good is AAF "support" if Vegas can't make proper AAFs?

So now that people are moving over to ProTools at the studio, I need a real way to work with them. Making stems of everything is tedious and not that useful (handles needed).

Has anyone else noticed that AAFs made in Vegas are bogus?

Found this post on Creative Cow from CDM:

"I have tried and tried again. I cannot get a single AAF file that I export out of Vegas to open in Pro Tools. I get: Cannot read wave data when I save it as Edit Protocol AAF and I get just tiny slivers of regions when I try it with Legacy AAF and wrong sample rates and wrong file types. This is really frustrating."

Same problem here.
@CDM-- you still using Vegas?

I have been commenting about this since AAF 'support' was added in Vegas 6. (I think). An exercise in futility attempting to import anything other than an AAF from Vegas on the same PC.... then what's the point. It certainly will not work with an AAFs from Avid or FCP-via Auto Duck. Anyway, I switched tp PTs for most audio-post work.

I have had no problems AAFing to/from PT with V10. I assume you are ticking the 'include media' box.

Is all the source media in one single folder (shouldn't make a difference, but hey ....) ?

Geoff--

Really?!

What are your settings? I am ticking the "include media" box. Can I send you a sample session to see if you can get it to work? That would be most helpful for me!

I'm sending projects which are all 44k/24/m source media. Remeber that PT can only handle files at a single project sample rate and bit depth.

You could post a *small* project from PT in Dropbox or similar, and I'll see if I can load into V if that would help. My PT buddy is not around at the mo, so can't test it the other direction here just now.

Geoff--

Will definitely take you up on the offer.
Going out on a shoot for 2 weeks. When I'm back, I'll hit you up.

Cheers,
C
