At last...
Magic Bullet 2 for Sony Vegas

was tempted to update it straight away but cannot find any information about if it works with 64bit version. it only says here:
Compatibility list

that it works with vegas 10 running on 64-bit versions of vista or win7 but obviously its not the same.
anyone got any info or updated it already and can confirm that it's working fine with 64bit vegas?

Great news. Think positive on this and if you like the product buy it so they will continue to support it. Looks is a really nice plugin and Vegas will be much better with it. This will save me a ton of time since I no longer have to export clips I want to treat to After Effects and back. Downloading...

Hey TLF, why not let those who are happy about it be happy about it instead of being all Negative Nancy. You don't like it, cool, whatever, this thread probably isn't for you then.

Anyone else who's upgraded, for some reason I'm not seeing Sony Vegas as an option under host program for the Magic Bullet Suite 11.1, only for Magic Bullet 2. I can live with just MB Looks 2 but thought that the Suite was also compatible and wouldn't mind checking it out.

MUTTLEY, I believe they did not update the web page, but it does mention on top that it is MBL Suite 11.1

The relationship with the Vegas community was support the community by selling the software, stop developing the software, tell us you won't support us, stop developing the software, then suddenly change your mind.

Maybe Vegas user outrage changed their mind. I didn't look but did it switch to OFX & that's why it supports Vegas 10 now? I don't see any sensible reason they would say they're dropping Sony support & then suddenly support the newest version, except they didn't like the bad PR.

EDIT: did look, no mention if it's OFX or not but it's apparently not compatible with XP.

Well.... it looks like they have a few bugs to work out still. The problem I'm having is when I use external monitor preview to my Black Magic card from within the Looks interface. The black/gamma levels jump noticibly, enough to make it unusable for color correction. When you jump back to Vegas and preview to the Black Magic card through Vegas itself it looks fine.

Can someone else confirm this?
MUTTLEY wrote on 9/27/2011, 2:48 PM
lol, way to be redundant and keep on the negative TLF. The Red Giant lambasting has been gone over ad infinitum in several other threads. To re-cap your previous opinions from your two posts over there:

Magic Bullet 1 was so slow it put me of MBL for life... I won't be wasting my £££ on it.

Didn't Red giant say it was pulling out of the Vegas market not so long ago? I wouldn't trust such a capricious company.

So, a company makes a product for Vegas, then withdraws support for Vegas. Then they claim they will support it and announce it is "available immediately". Then they say it's not available, and can't say when it will be...

Do you seriously trust that company to provide the tools you want?

Hmmm.

So even though you already vented and cried in that thread you feel the need to come to this one and rehash your same lame bullet points? Bitter much? Didn't think we heard you the first time? Think if you say the same negative stuff over and over again maybe people will start not liking Red Giant or Magic Bullet?

We heard you the first time ... and the second time ... and now the third and fourth time.

Haters will hate. I'm giddy as a school girl.

I have been waiting a long time for this. And finally its here! full 64 bit MBL in Vegas, yeah!!!...
errrm, hang on a moment. My 100% rock solid stable machine is now crashing, mainly when i hit the EDIT button to open MBL editor properties :(
Its iffy at best, and thats no good to me.
I actually want MBL to work, i will keep trying it, send in a report to red giant, report the issue, but really, in its present state i cant use it guys sorry.
When it does work, the looks DO look great, this is the good part. But then another bad, this plugin is a huge CPU hog. I can normally preview 25fps footage from dslrs in just about any preview mode. Not with this i cant. In fact, i cannot get 25 in ANY preview display mode. Not even in draft auto! Come on, please.

I wanted this to be fantastic, and guys, its just not. Well not yet anyway. Not for me. Not yet.
Would like to hear what everyone is seeing on their machines, is this just me?

[edit] i have just sent RG a support email. fingers crossed.

From the first post in the second thread linked below:

I spoke with Magic Bullet today and they said no date but soon. I like what they wrote about us:

So why are we adding support back into Vegas Pro, after we dropped it just a few months back? In short, because we love you. No really. That’s why. The Sony Vegas users were extremely passionate about our stance on Looks 2, and we love passion. It’s what drives the creativity in our industry, and it’s what drives us to make better tools. And once we saw your commitment to getting the most out of your editor, we started working directly with the team at Sony to get you what you need to make that happen.

Magic Bullet 2 will soon run on Sony Vegas 10+ 64-

I have no problem with other people having an opinion that varies from mine, if I truly did I would have to hate just about everyone. What does get old and annoying is people who continually and unprovokedly bash things, you state your opinion once, vent, get it out, cool, but to keep saying the same things over and over again isn't just voicing your opinion, it is, as I stated earlier, just being a Negative Nancy. Ironic that you would call me petty and vindictive when that's EXACTLY what your doing by going around and poo-poo on any post regarding Magic Bullet. It seems to me Sir that I'm not the one being intolerant of others opinions. Many have posted their support and approval of Red Giants coming back to Vegas. Some see it as a good sign for Vegas as a whole. Every time someone does TLF comes along and "Waaa, Red Giant, Waaaa Magic Bullet." Asking things like "Do you seriously trust that company to provide the tools you want?" is not just an opinion, it's condescending. The implied is that anyone who would is not near as smart as you. Your posts put down just about anyone who is happy about it, I'm only putting down you, and really I'm not even doing that, I'm only calling out your repeated and redundant negativity.

And you keep acting like they somehow did you wrong, I've been using Magic Bullet throughout this entire time, their announcement that they were not going to support Vegas was a drag but it wasn't like *poof*, suddenly it was removed from my system. All I had to do was use 32 bit instead of 64, not a huge sacrifice. They didn't come kill my puppy.

All that said, you're 100% correct, if you want to keep acting like a woman scorned you certainly have the right. Please keep posting the same complaints and arguments over and over again, sooner or later I'm bound to agree with you. Meantime grateful to see Magic Bullet back again, love the new effects and improvements, for me today is a good day. =)

All I can add is this:

"Magic Bullet Suite 11.1 with Looks 2 for Vegas Pro is available immediately and is priced at $799.00 USD for new customers.

At that price I don't see a whole lot of Vegas Pro users buying into it no matter how good it is. Also if I'm reading what RG are saying correctly it should work better in V11.

I got MB Looks 2 for free when I bought a new CS5.5 License plus the other goodness from RG and Boris. I already have a couple of other RG ex Digital Anarchy plugs for AE.

To my way of thinking doing serious grading in ANY NLE is plain nuts. It is a very CPU intensive task, I've found the same issues with the GenArts plugs, they look great but they barely hang in there and Vegas can become crash central with them.

I should add that at the moment I've been trying to run them on less than cutting edge hardware, maybe my new system will relieve some of the pain but even so, personally from a workflow point of view getting out of my NLE and into a different space to use such tools works well for me. I don't see me as being a loner in this. I don't see many doing grading in FCP and Avid doesn't even pretend to support CC in MC.

I just asked RG if the full suite is now available to Vegas Pro users, nope. Its just Looks 2 at this time but they are working on others. Kinda wanted to clear that up because i thought that meant Vegas users could use all the products in the suite, but we cant. Not yet anyway. Shame, i wanted to try colorista.

If you own a previous version of Magic Bullet Looks (or magic bullet editors) you can upgrade to the new version for only $99. That's a deal. You do not need to buy the suite.
Derm wrote on 9/27/2011, 6:47 PM
Got the whole suite for $399 as I own Particular V2. Can be used for Vegas, AE, Photoshop, Premiere, all at once.
Good deal
Ros wrote on 9/27/2011, 8:04 PM
I ran the trial and it worked fine, no crashes, renders are longer than standard Sony plugins but hey, it is now 64 bits, so Vegas 32 bits should be retiring soon, once Mojo 64 bits gets out.

Like very much the Ranged HSL, Haze and Cosmo filters which are new to MBL2.

Still debating if I should go with the Suite or just Looks 2.... but will definitely go for one.

Ive said it once and saying it again. MBL suite does NOT work in Vegas Pro! The only component that works from the suite at this time is Looks v2. That is a direct email message from RG. Not me.
So, if you only have Vegas Pro and you buy the Suite - you are wasting money. None of the applications in the suite will work except Looks 2. But if you are also using AE, Premiere etc, then yes, only then can you use the included plugins. Like colorista, LUT buddy etc..
Well, as for me, currently in the support ticket chain at RG. Hopefull! :)

Um, all of those weren't insults, I was saying I was giddy as a schoolgirl. What your implying by the feminine part I'm unsure but bravo to you for your keen and astute observations.

Beyond that your still saying the same things and have your panties in a bunch and are making it as though anyone who likes Magic Bullet and wants to support Red Giant (so maybe they might just continue to support Sony Vegas?) is somehow deficient in their judgment. "Why are Vegas users paying the same $$$ for less functionality?" Again, not attacking me but anyone and everyone who's foolish enough to buy it. And funny that you say you used it, you wish you had been able to continue to use it, you would use it again but yet "There's always an alternative."

And someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think you have to buy the full suite at all, you can buy it as a standalone which, if true, negates that part of your argument.
http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/products/all/magic-bullet-looks/

Beyond that sorry that for whatever reason you couldn't get it working in 10, I had no issues in anything other than 64 bit. Not sure how hard you tried getting in touch with them about your issue when you said "they weren't very helpful." but even when they were taking time off from Vegas they continued to answer the questions I had.

To reiterate my bottom line, for me it's a huge time saver, for me it has a multitude of effects and looks that are not easily, if at all, possible in Vegas alone. Call me dumb for spending my money for software that I like that saves me time and that helps me money but it only makes sense to me to support them if I expect them to continue to support us.

P.S. I officially turn the rest of this thread over to you so that you can continue to make the same arguments over and over again, this is just silly.

C'mon guys... wouldnt be better to spend that time on shooting some cool videos instead? :)

Especially that there's no sign that the agreement can be achieved. I do understand both sides too... i was really pissed off when they announced that they're dropping the support for vegas... but luckily we got it now (not that i believe in them doing it because of the passion of the vegas community, but then again its not a charity organization and what they have to think about is money).

So for $99 i upgraded from looks 1.2 to looks 2 (you dont have to buy a whole suite... you have to download it though - 130mb, but you can pick it you want to install just the apps you have the license for or you can install the rest of them in trial version as well) , and i'm just happy that we got it eventually... not sure it deserves 2.0 though - think 1.3 would be more appropriate as apart from the mostly visual differences there's not that much new.
Dont treat it as do i want to support the red giant or not, do they deserve it or not... all i need was this tool in 64bit and that's what i got.
happy with that. period :)

by the way (ex1 footage with heavy cc MB profile that usually was playing back with something around 10fps in 32bit vegas is playing back with almost full 25fps all the time in 64bit). so i think i it was worth those ~€70

now back to editing...
paul_w wrote on 9/29/2011, 4:29 PM
Update: seems to be working now!

I was trying to figure out why there was certain Looks preset catagories showing up in the list but when i clicked them there was nothing in there. This made me suspicious.
I then looked at the program folder for MB Looks. And i could see empty folders named like 'Tint' etc... in there from a quite old version of Looks 1 trial from a long time ago. I thought it had been removed during the uninstall back then. So, i uninstalled Looks 2 trial, and manually deleted al the old folders for Looks. Then i reinstalled looks 2 trial and hey - it seems to be solid now, no crashes when hitting the Edit button. Seems solid.
And unless i am mistaken, the preview frame rate seems better too. Cant understand why though. Canon footage is now previewing at 25fps using 'preview auto'. But depends on which filter preset you use. Some are slower frame rate than others.
The preview device setting still does not show up on my third monitor. But i can live with that.
So - seems good now, hope this information helps other MBL users.

I just bought Looks v2!

Paul.
PeterWright wrote on 9/29/2011, 8:21 PM
I bought MB Looks a couple of years ago when it was on special, but since then had got used to not having it with V10. The $99 upgrade was hard to ignore though, so I went for it (it's only money!) .... it does feel a bit like paying to use something I already had, but I expect there's one or two new features ...
Grazie wrote on 9/30/2011, 1:46 AM
If Uncle Pete says - "It's only money . . " then I'm at the bar . . . .

RG need to get their collective skates on, to assure me that they are going to be using the GPU acceleration for render and preview otherwise, if they really want to feel/hear PASSION then they'll get it.

One scorns a Vegas Users love at one's peril . . . .

Pragmatically? Mutts is right and so is TFL.

The end result I'm wanting, is for SCS to get RG to make use of my new BEAST's (pc) grunt. Do that and I'll recognise RG's contriteness in wooing me back to their stable. Don't deliver that and I'll be diggin' out the pre-nup. Oh yeah right, there wasn't one . . only my wonder at all that pretty, silky & subtle caresses to my footage.

As they say in Yorkshire:"Fine words butter no parsnips!" - OR: Action speak louder than words.
