New Titler to test

jetdv wrote on 6/2/2011, 7:27 AM
NewBlue is now in the beta process for a new titler. At this time it will only work in Vegas Pro 10-32bit as it requires OpenFX and has not yet been ported to 64-bit. If you'd like to check it out, see this letter:

http://app.streamsend.com/private/kTxG/VLX/oqZEhqj/browse/14009977

but please download the newer version from here:

www.newbluefx.com/downloads/Windows/Beta/NewBlueTitlerForWindowsSetupLogged_6_1_11.exe

For any comments/questions/suggestions, please e-mail to beta @ newblueinc.com

Please note that this is a "lite" consumer version and a pro version with more features will be forthcoming later this year.

Ed,
Is a signup NOT required for the beta?

Boy does this look like a good product that I would use constantly!

Will definitely give it a try.

Also looking forward to see the pro version.

Thanks

I've no plans to install a 32-bit version of Vegas so I'll miss out on the beta, but I'd love to see a few screen shots if they're available.

Rob, I understand. Eventually it will be ported to 64-bit and I'm sure some screenshots will be made available as time goes by.

Thanks Ed,

Understandable. Maybe curiosity will get the better of me and I'll install 32-bit VP10...

So I gave it a test drive and like it!

I really like the fact that you can apply a texture in the style pane, and best of all, you can import you own textures and can have the environment box checked and it acts like a reflective map.

If the pro version can have manual settings for lights, a compositing mode (overlay, add, dodge...) it will be great.

Is there a way to keyframe in this beta version?

nice idea, but why hold off 64bit?

like rob, i haven't even bothered installing 32bit, and am unlikely to no matter what's written for it.

I've been trying to test this on my current project which is around 50 minutes long but has no fancy effects -- just dissolves, one image layer and about 5 audio layers, and a single titles layer, but as soon as I place the default clip over an image clip and attempt to do the slightest thing within the titler's GUI, Vegas crashes not leaving me a moment to snap a report. Very disappointing for me because I'm always interested in new tilters. I have Vegas 10d; Windows 32.

Before I post this message I will try to get it started on a test project -- just one clip long... It works... sort of, but hasn't crashed yet. I don't like the text style selector; very cumbersome and hard to see white samples on a white background. My hour clock cursor starts running as soon as I start clicking around to explore what this new titler has to offer. The first thing I want to see is a good way to justify characters within a line but can't find a place to do this. It seems this plugin is designed more for FX and I am looking for a solid 2D basic titler that can do a few things that the Vegas can't do but it looks like it's the same or even less -- certainly far less intuitive. This is how I spent the last 30 minutes and give up.

Rob,
No keyframing in this version. Will be in the Pro, I am told.

Why don't they release a 64bit version as that is what most are now using.
jetdv wrote on 6/3/2011, 6:07 AM
The port to 64-bit simply hasn't been completed at this time. Ultimately there will be a 64-bit version.
jetdv wrote on 6/3/2011, 6:08 AM
Paul, there should be a crash message and log created. We need you to send that to us. The full details are in the first link in the first post.

Eh? The download speed for the file is creeping around 26Kb/sec. Estimate of 6 hours to download . . .

jetdv wrote on 6/3/2011, 7:38 AM
You might try stopping the download and restarting. I'm showing about a 40 minute download for me right now which, given my internet connection speed, is about right for a 50 meg file. And I'm only reading about 20Kb/sec for 40 minutes.
Grazie wrote on 6/3/2011, 7:43 AM
Ugh . . I'm now getting 3.44kb/ec for 4 hours . . .

$tupid question.... can I have 32-bit and 64-bit on the same system?
jetdv wrote on 6/3/2011, 9:10 AM
Yes, both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Vegas can be installed on the same system.

Grazie, my download did finish. You might try again now.

Why don't they release a 64bit version as that is what most are now using.

Maybe that's true but I would have guessed that most people still use the 32-bit version of Vegas. I have no evidence either way, though.

This is a beta, not a release, and when you develop software you should focus on whatever the bigger market is. If more people are running 32-bit then you'd think that's the bigger market. On the other hand, if the 64-bit people are fewer but more likely to open their wallets...

My guess is that you can get a lot more chatter going by getting lots and lots of free betas into the hands of 32-bit vegas users. When it comes time to pull out credit cards, that might not be the same market segment as the free beta users.

"Paul, there should be a crash message and log created. "

Where should I look for this?
jetdv wrote on 6/3/2011, 12:32 PM
The first link in the first post explains error reporting. Also, please send reports to beta at newblueinc.com

Here it is:

Reporting Crashes

If Titler crashes while you are testing it, please take a screenshot of the error message that you see (if taking a screenshot is not possible, please copy the text of the error message).

Additionally, Titler places a log file in the folder “C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Roaming\Titler” After a crash, please send in the log file that you find in this directory along with the screenshot of the error message that you received.

When reporting a crash, please also include what brand and model of video card that you are using, how much video ram it has, and (if possible) the driver version that it is using.
